My game freezes at random intervals of time, it may be 5 minutes of playing, or even 81 minutes.
To be more precise - screen freezes, but i can still hear sounds of game.
Any ideas how to fix that? I remember it never happened on my old laptop with windows 7, but now i’m playing on windows 10.
It’s troublesome when it happens in middle of long “cutscene” with a lot of dialogues
I’m not sure if someone else mentioned it already, but i see that you’re using “then” instead of “than”, i think i’ve already seen this mistake 7 times, it’s minor but it would be good one to be fixed
Sorry to hear about the technical bugs. The only idea for what it might be is that in some scenes if you hold W to skip through the dialogue too fast, character move routes get confused. When the game freezes, is it usually due to a character walking towards a solid object?
As for the than/then, yes I am a very much grammers dumb brain. I’ll do my best to keep an eye out for them, but please let me know any specific spots you see them.
Sorry again for the game freezes, hope you find a solution!
I can’t really give you specific spots, because i could swear that every time you’re supposed to use “than”, it’s just “then”. I sort of stopped counting after 25th time, i’d need to replay game from the very beginning and keep making screenshots, but sadly i don’t have that much free time. I’m currently during detective part and i remember seeing one dialogue with three “then”.
I may be blind but i did not see any other kind of writing mistakes.
AS for game freezing - it happens during every random possible moments, sometimes when i walk, sometimes during battle, sometimes during dialogues, i never noticed any kind of pattern. Although currently i’m playing this game for over an hour and nothing happened so far in current session, so it’s really, really random.
Here are two examples i caught from moment i started taking screenshots, from now on i’ll try to make screenshots of every mistake and post it here, or perhaps would it be better to send you that in private message?
Is there a way to see alternate scenes for the multiple choice options in the game? I’m really interested in seeing the differences in choices but dont really want to play through the whole game again lol
The game occasionally freezing for no reason is a core bug of RPGmaker that can be fixed with a quick edit to the rpg_core.js file.
Check this Git thread: Fix the game screen freezes occasionally even though you hear the sounds by krmbn0576 · Pull Request #191 · rpgtkoolmv/corescript · GitHub
And follow the file changes listed; you’ll want something that’s good at opening js files- I have Visual Studio Code and it just makes my life easier for stuff like this.
Specifically, you’re looking for
Graphics.render = function(stage) {
if (this._skipCount === 0) {
change that === to <= and it will stop the freezing. Technically this is a change that could be made before the update is published by Waxe and it would stop the game from freezing for anyone who downloads it, but I’m not sure if A) they’ve seen it before or B) they were aware it was that quick to fix.
Is there no option to delete letters once i wrote them while naming new “servant” for Heather’s prison? Because i was holding space and my servant is now named AAAAAAA, but i just want to know if there was some option to somehow reset name? Delete did not work and i have not seen any icon that would work like delete/backspace.
Thank you for reply about bug, but i don’t want to bother with downloading new program, only to fix rarely occurring game freezes, i also don’ understand a word about post you said, it does not explain what file exactly i need to find and i also don’t see any solution in post you’ve seen? It could be simpler if someone explained exactly what file i need to open, what line exactly i need to change etc.
I can’t even find rpg.core.js file that you mentioned
Thank you! This is perfect!
X on the keyboard should delete.
On to my thoughts about the update proper.
First up; this game continues to be one of my favorites. My literal core philosophy about sexual and kink content is that it doesn’t need to detract from general quality, and in fact can significantly add to it if deployed correctly. This game continues to prove that idea correct. I don’t think the entire concept of a game devoted to nothing but long sequences of talking about what is essentially a town and a world’s history of abuse and trying to rehab not only the town, but the main characters as well would have worked as well if The characters were using generic fantasy methods of ‘I heal you with magic’ or ‘I punch the problem.’ The sexual content and the kink content provides a third axis by which characters can approach an issue, a way to affect change without it seeming stilted or undeserved, but without the dramatic action that causes changes to seem morally or ironically out of place with the stated goal; using nothing but violence and harsh language to end cycles of abuse is way too commonly the only answer people come up with in normal video game development.
On to the meat of the update in general, starting at the end with our end-of-update cliffhanger; It’s been expertly seeded thus far that there was something up with Gretel and that she wasn’t exactly what she was saying she was, and wasn’t like other Apostles in specific since pretty early on. I hadn’t been guessing ‘wrong sin’ yet, but it doesn’t seem at all out of place in hindsight. And that’s the best version of a plot twist IMO, when you know something is up, you don’t guess exactly what the twist is, but when it’s revealed it makes perfect sense.
Other things of note; The general character growth, both in terms of personalities and waistlines, has been spectacular. It’s great to see people starting to open up in ways that have been slow boiling for a while, and to see Lily start to understand responsibility and Gretel come to terms with herself at the same time as Sebastian starts to crack under pressure is a spectacular tradeoff. Slob content is one of the things in my wheelhouse, so Dina’s scene was particularly good on my end, but in addition to that the changes in everyone else in town have been spectacular. It’s lovely seeing that not everyone needs the same solution, and thought being put forward on both how to help each individual person but also how to make this change last once the Apostles move on is great.
Overall, excellent update, there’s way more I could go into but my thoughts are a big jumble and I’d rather not just ramble for an hour.
Thank you for the reports with screenshots! Either a dm or a report here would be acceptable, whatever is easier.
As for the game freezing at other points, I’m unsure on that one if it is not a movement error. Might be local to your PC.
I have not seen this solution before, so I’ll look into it! Thank you!
I can provide a step-by-step with pictures since that’s probably an easier explanation.
This is the file you’re looking to make changes to.
If we look in that git thread I posted for you-
We’re looking to make this change. So we open that file with something that can read it; in my case, Visual Studio Code.
Then we find that specific line of code and change the === into a <= as explained in the thread, and it stops freezing.
Notably this applies to -all- RPGMaker games. Most of them have that bug where if you’re playing for a long time they’ll occasionally just freeze up but keep playing sounds. This is the same solution for all of them. I usually forget about it until the game freezes then remember I need to make that change.
I never had this problem in other RPG maker game, but looks like you can edit js with notepad so i just edited file without downloading anything extra.
Time to see if it worked, ty
Could someone help me? I’ve extinguished all 4 braziers before any of them managed to fire on its own again, but i still can’t proceed in this section, i’m getting THIS message every time, does not matter if braziers are lit, or not.
Oh, it was about starting fire in right order. That’s not very intuitive, i thought i was supposed to start fire on all braziers ASAP, without needing to follow any kind of order
Hello? Yes, I need to know what to type for when I play as Lily and bring some keg of beer over to Veronica and Sophia. What should I type?
This has been happening to me too, but with all RPG Maker games I play. This may help depending on your OS: RPG Maker MV Games Graphics Will Freeze, but Sound Keeps Playing: The Problem & The Solution | RPG Maker Forums
The codes should be
“Cheers”
“Toast”
“Bottoms Up”
“Queer”
“Bitch”
“CHUG CHUG CHUG”
Thank you for such kind and well written thoughts! Your core philosophy is one I only adopted later in life. For awhile I only thought all porn was low brow and shallow, and that’s all they were capable of. But then I found some porn games that really blew me away, some with stories better than most books and video games. Then I realized, hey if they can do it, why can’t I? And Apostles was born!
It makes me happy that my game is can be considered in the same league as the others in regards to having sexual content and serious story mixed together as one, with neither detracting from the other, so thank you again for your kind words!
Yay! That’s what I was hoping for! As you said, the best plot twists aren’t the ones everyone calls from a mile away, or the plot twists that are for shock value and make little since, the best twists are the ones that make perfect sense in hindsight. I think anyone who replays the game with the knowledge in mind, “Gretel isn’t the Apostle of Gluttony, she’s the Apostle of Wrath” will be in for quite the treat, with many off handed comments making more sense, and seeing clues that you didn’t realize were clues.
You’ve made a good observation on Gretel + Lily both growing in a positive direction, while Sebastian has been going down in a more negative direction (or we are only now being shown it) and it’s something that will certainly come to a head in future updates.
Yay! So good to hear the Dina content getting a lot of love across the board. Slob is something I have a shaky relationship with, I don’t LOVE it, but I do like it under certain circumstances. But I have failed to write it well in the past, with the slob Heather section getting some mixed reviews. However, with Dina it seems I hit the mark a lot more closely, with it getting no complaints and being a point of praise across several different comments, so I’ll do my best to keep going in that direction with future Dina fun!
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and your technical support for the freezing issue!
