Thank you for such kind and well written thoughts! Your core philosophy is one I only adopted later in life. For awhile I only thought all porn was low brow and shallow, and that’s all they were capable of. But then I found some porn games that really blew me away, some with stories better than most books and video games. Then I realized, hey if they can do it, why can’t I? And Apostles was born!
It makes me happy that my game is can be considered in the same league as the others in regards to having sexual content and serious story mixed together as one, with neither detracting from the other, so thank you again for your kind words!
Yay! That’s what I was hoping for! As you said, the best plot twists aren’t the ones everyone calls from a mile away, or the plot twists that are for shock value and make little since, the best twists are the ones that make perfect sense in hindsight. I think anyone who replays the game with the knowledge in mind, “Gretel isn’t the Apostle of Gluttony, she’s the Apostle of Wrath” will be in for quite the treat, with many off handed comments making more sense, and seeing clues that you didn’t realize were clues.
You’ve made a good observation on Gretel + Lily both growing in a positive direction, while Sebastian has been going down in a more negative direction (or we are only now being shown it) and it’s something that will certainly come to a head in future updates.
Yay! So good to hear the Dina content getting a lot of love across the board. Slob is something I have a shaky relationship with, I don’t LOVE it, but I do like it under certain circumstances. But I have failed to write it well in the past, with the slob Heather section getting some mixed reviews. However, with Dina it seems I hit the mark a lot more closely, with it getting no complaints and being a point of praise across several different comments, so I’ll do my best to keep going in that direction with future Dina fun!
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and your technical support for the freezing issue!
Sorry for the trouble with that. For that puzzle, it doesn’t have an exact order, but the delay before the flames go out in the braziers is not the same across all 4. Some went out quicker then others.
I’ve a few story related questions that i did not find answer to (probably due to my problem with focusing and remembering stuff)
Always happy to answer some questions!
For the 1st, just to check have you finished the most recent content with update 11? The update that came out last week.
2nd good question. That hasn’t been given a full answer yet so I won’t go too deep into spoilers. But to give a partial answer, Cynthia is a lot of terrible things, but stupid is not one of them.
3rd While we haven’t actually seen Cynthia use white magic, there as of yet hasn’t been any indication that she is Nullen.
If I had to guess, Cynthia definitely has white magic. She almost has to, as she’s lived for a long time, after all. She was around when Sebastian was a teenager. She also was directly involved in creating Gretel, Willow, and Penny, many other children, and the concept of Apostles of sin. If I had to guess, those are feats.
I did not finish new content yet, so i’ll first do that before asking again about first question.
Thank you for answers
i just finished this update. ( i skipped the mauve parts so my opinion may vary once i read the poor beastials tale.) it was fun and nice. i really liked how lily self reflected for once in her life and acted like a sensible human for once. the interactions were sweet and nice and im happy for bel and anya. im also happy for the misstress and the heifer. one thing i have to add is that i love how parts of this update we’re somewhat influenced by comments in this forum, L is trying to be better in this update but she does give off attetion seeker vibes along with that part of the character that was discussed here before the update, how she regrets not being able to make proper lasting relationships with others.
Glad you had fun! I’m happy all the new couples were fun to see come together. And yeah, I tried to keep audience feedback in mind while making the update. Not to 180 how Lily is, but rather to keep people’s issues with her in mind so I don’t inadvertently have her do anything too offensive.
Another grammar mistakes with “then”, there are more but i don’t spam screenshots since you can post only five in one post. I should really play game from the very start and take every needed screenshot
Now that i finished current update, i’m left with some questions yet again.
Thanks for the typo reports! I’ll fix them up.
On to your questions!
1 yes, that is one of the major secrets that was being kept from Lily.
There were more things for me to talk about the update and I promised some theorycrafting, so here’s my Review 2: Electric Boogaloo.
When I saw Claire take down the parody Apostles I was less impressed with how dangerous she was then I was interested in her going through most of the powers that the Apostles have. Envy and Pride were thematic but ultimately not overly spectacular to me (in this showing at least). Sloth was just Sebastion’s powers again and they didn’t do anything at all.
Greed is where things get good. The ability to lock people into deals is not only extremely thematic, but it is also the same mechanic that Gomorrah uses to enforce the bets that are made there. It’s possible that I might be misremembering some small difference, but I believe that the similarities at least point to a connection between the two. I’m taking this as further evidence for my Penny is the Apostle of Greed theory (although her name doesn’t start with G).
Even more interesting to me though is the fact that Claire listed Lust’s two abilities as suggestion and regeneration, but doesn’t mention shapeshifting. While this might be an exception due to Lust being inherently unstable, Claire specifically calls out Wrath as the exception to her theory. This means that she might be genuinely ignorant about what L is capable of, which means that if she decides to kill L, she will likely fail due to surprise silverback gorilla.
Something that I’m not clear on is is Claire is aware that the parody Apostles are parodies or not. In the beginning of the fight she mentions that Envy had died too soon to respawn but that 6/6 Apostles have gathered (notably excluding Gluttony), but later on she mentions something about “real” Apostles, so I don’t know how much she knows. If she knows that they are fake, then why would she be surprised about Envy being there? On the other hand, if she thinks that they are real, then why does she think that Gretel/Willow is dead when they have fought her several times and she isn’t able to die?
Speaking of Gretel/Willow, I think that the reason she isn’t able to die despite apparently not having access to regeneration is that Gretel and Willow are separate people living in the same body. If one of them dies then the other will take over, and then the dead personality will comeback after a set period of time so that she will always have a form of insurance.
The reason I think that she has two completely different personalities is seen talking to the sword in the previous update, plus she has the memory of her sister talking to her directly makes me think that she is conversing with a different person inside of herself. This allows Gretel to scheme against Willow by starving her of power. By creating a personality that desires to help others instead of hurting them, Willow won’t have the ability to use her Apostle powers to destroy the world or forcibly take over their body. All that she can do is torment Gretel with her past crimes until she breaks down and lets her control slip. Willow should also be able to force a switch if she is completely deprived of any violence due to Apostles needing to indulge, which is why Gretel torments Violet juuuust enough that Wrath is held at bay. She also avoided personally indulging in Gluttony so that in the event of Willow gaining control she would have less power to draw on.
Another theory that I have is that Cynthia is an Ur Apostle with the abilities of all the sins at her command. She is shown to be able to make addicting food, summon monsters, and is an egomaniac in the extreme. However, what really sells this to me is that I believe that Sebastion had either tricked or somehow forced to Cynthia to use her Greed powers to make a deal with her. In exchange for Sebastion letting her do whatever she wants to him, she can’t go rampaging whenever she wants. After all, she isn’t someone who would deny herself anything, and she clearly wanted to (violently) mess with the parody Apostles, but she asked Sebastion permission to do so and listened to him when he said no. The only way that I think she would ever deny herself anything is a binding deal, and with the immense power she clearly has the only one who could do so is someone at least as strong as her. And according to Penny, the only one that strong is herself.
Other than my theories, the only thing other that I feel like mentioning about this update is the detail about elves giving each other a lock of each others hair when they really like each other. With the way that hair is so important as an indicator of an elves role in society it makes sense as a cute ritual that would develop for them. It is also means that when an elf is shaved, they aren’t worthy of love, which is probably another reason that Anya viewed herself as broken. Little things like that might mostly go unnoticed, but I think that they are what make a fictional world truly come alive.
I’ll say it again: another great update.
Wow that was an update. I am desperate for the next one!
Oh la la, these were some fun ones to read! I wont spoil what is right/wrong, but I will clarify ones that are less game mysterious and more me not accurately conveying the info I wanted.
I can see how this one is less clear, but the regeneration is part of the shapeshifting. So not unique to Lily, and known to Clair.
So on this one, Clair doesn’t know they are “fake” but she does know something fishy is going on. When she first went in, she thought she won the jackpot, finding all the Apostles at once. But when Envy comes in, that’s when we see Clair drop the ‘brainwashed act’ and get confused. She knows for a 100% fact there can’t be a new Apostle of Envy, yet here one is. She’s wondering if there is a fake Envy here, then are the rest of these Apostles fake as well? An answer she will soon find out as she took 2 of the parody Apostles alive.
Ah, thank you for noticing! Yes, that nailed what I was trying to convey with subtext. Hair being so important to elves as a culture, so giving a small bit of that hair is a significant exchange. And Nullen are considered unfit to breed, and are so excluded from the custom.
Thank you again for your theories! They were fun to read!
@Riverking1 Thank you! Glad you had fun, sorry to leave you on a cliffhanger!
I can’t believe that I spelled Clair’s name wrong! I also thought that I might have been trying too hard to be clever with what Clair might have known, so it’s as much as or even more my fault for not understanding as much as it might be your fault for not accurately conveying information.
To your credit “Claire” is the typical English way to spell the name.
However “Clair” is the French version. Clair is more gender neutral, so it fits Clair’s more tomboy way of carrying herself, sort of like the same gender neutral tomboy “Sam” from Auburnwoods.
The name “Clair” also can mean “bright” which is fitting for her as Clair is meant to be one smart cookie!
Now how cool would it have been if I intended any of that, and didn’t just look that information up 20 seconds ago XD.
In truth she’s called Clair because I spelled her name wrong all through one update and when someone pointed it out, I was too lazy to go back and add an E to the end of all her name appearances.
Here is Apostles 11.1! No big changes in this patch, mainly a lot of spelling and grammar fixings. Sorry they were so numerous and thank you everyone for the reports.
(These two files are identical, they are just different ways to download.)
Unless some new bug is found in this patch, I think this will conclude the Apostles development for time being, and it’ll be back over to Atlas. Hope you all enjoy what we have cooking there!
