Astral Flip

Follow the doughy nerd Golda and her friends as she tries to have a normal morning, despite countless fattening shenanigans.

The lovely @KabKebab and I wanted to throw our hats into the ring this year for the Gain Jam, and this is what we came up with! We had an awesome (if exhausting) time making it and hope you’ll enjoy playing just as much as we did! Explore, or just speedrun through the fetish stuff, I’m not your mom. Probably.

One last thing… Once you’ve completed the full game, please make sure to spoiler any info about the game you post! Anything nonspecific (i.e. I hate your game and want you to suck eggs, I love your game and want you to suck my eggs, etc) can be unspoilered, but anything specific (i.e. screenshots, references to specific events in the game, etc) Should either be spoilered or left vague. Again, I’m probably not your mom, so you can do whatever you want, but we kindly request you respect our wishes.

Making this game along with zcell has been an amazing (and greatly exhausting) experience.
Due to the time limit, some of the content didn’t make the cut and got coded out or rewritten, but this is nevertheless still something I’m proud of having participated in!

I hope that everyone will enjoy it!

So i’ve reached part where Golda gives food to catgirl and then fights with aliens, while also becoming huge.
Is that the real/only ending of game? After that i woke up once again like it was the beginning

THE RIDE NEVER ENDS!

Yeah, this last sequence is one of the two endings this game has to offer. The other one should be easy to figure out. Hope you’ve enjoyed it!

I love this game idea of dreams inside dream making a huge loop that is hard to get out of it took me some loops to give out of it but it was so much fun.

I’ve been trying to get the secret ending and tried everything and still am not sure how to obtain it. Any hints would be appreciated, thank you.

The door exists in both worlds, your ending depends on which world you’re in when you cross it.

Hope that this helps clear things up!

Good point:

+Full art
+Character talking with audio effect
+Some effect sounds interesting. Did you use any plugins for discussions?

Point which should be reviewed:

-Audio effect of discussions sometimes very violent for the ears.
-Be careful when forcing messages to close. The traveling of the text can be quite slow so press so that it unfolds in its entirety. But the message closes directly afterwards and it is impossible to read it. If you want to close a message don’t forget to put some time before using either | for a second or . for 1/4 second.
I don’t speak English well, I missed a lot of text.

-Restarting the game directly at the end is very confusing. I would like to return to the title screen in the future project .Fade to black, stare with thanks and then return to the title screen is a classic way to end a game. If you start again with the start of the game, make your player understand that there is a real interest in doing it again. .

Final vision: For a first game it’s not bad. On the other hand, I have a lot of trouble following them. The idea of alternating worlds is good and the multitude of settings demonstrate a lot of imagination.

However, the story is lacking. You should also document the different resources that you used if you are not the creator. You also have a fairly linear vision of how to do quests. Anyway, well done to you. And thank for your work.

There is a surprising amount of content here, and I appreciate the number (and variety!) of girls. The time loop concept is nice, but poorly explained. I was expecting a “true ending” after seeing the other two, but just being sent back to the beginning to play everything again kind of diminished the end result

It is possible to break the monster chase if you’re too good (because I’m a pro gamer like that). If you perfectly time each direction change to not lose any time the monster will get stuck on the final bit of geometry as it tries to target you, so you’re sort of soft-locked until you walk back to meet your fate. Increasing the depth of that final u-bend by one or two tiles would fix this. Or keep it and make a super secret hidden ending? Unexpected outcomes from the most unexpected areas….

Of the thirty games I’ve played from this year’s game jam, this one might be my favourite—it’s definitely in the top three.
The dialogue’s hilarious, and every character is endearing and well realised.
The art’s lovely (and only enhanced by the contrast between the two dream realms), and the overall concept and execution is just really pleasant.
Excellent work @zcell111 and @KabKebab; I greatly enjoyed playing it.

JUDGES’ VERDICTS:

Does being blasted at incredible volumes with cat sounds count as an “unexpected outcome” when playing a fat fetish game? Kidding, thankfully there’s sound options for this. It’s a delightful romp with a girl getting into heavy shenanigans with her friends, with a bit of an otherworldly twist. It was a fun ride, the city swapping mechanic was delightful, and I liked the story focusing on people feeling okay in various ways with their bodies. A bit on the nose at the end of the one ending I got, but a delight nonetheless. Sadly hampered by point and click RPG maker visual novel style things, but it told a cute story and incorporated fetish content well.

Highly inventive and creative! There’s a lot here on offer to see and do in these strange and wonderful dreamworlds, all delivered with a sense of charm and wit to it that could see it as a contender for Best Writing.
.
While slightly disorienting and overwhelming at first, the literal gameplay loop helped to dispel those concerns and exploring what the world(s) had to offer was a joy to play. Fantastic job!
