some of us would love it too, but like Shugoki said most of people vote for the humans, but good luck to you if you decide to try to win over the people

One of the future (female) classes is ā€˜Beastkin’, so depending on your definition, you might get your wish.

If it’s just humans with animal ears, then no. That’s still human imo. Aldo, why can’t we just have one vote for ONLY non-human characters? Because, honestly, I have no interest in this game if humans are the only playable characters, but I don’t want to make a federal case out of it or anything.

Again, Please do not simply be humans with animal ears/Tails. I’d love to see some non-humans/anthros. Sorry if I am sounding a little desperate, it’s just kinda a strong turn-of for me to see humans=good/everything else=bad in media.

Because the way character votes work is, patrons of a certain tier submit their designs for a class, and then other patrons choose their favorites once a class vote begins. Angel is ultimately the one calling the shots, and he’s never indicated that a class will ever have hard restrictions on what kind of design it can have. The only accommodation for audiences outside the game’s initial target group is the recently-announced male classes which will come down the line, but that’s more to accommodate for other sexual orientations, which is a bit different from furry content.

There will be NPCs at some point, and some of them may fit your tastes, but until then, your only shot is to become a patron and vote/submit a design. There hasn’t appeared to be much demand for furry chars thus far, especially given the way votes have gone (and, again, the voters are the people giving Angel money, so their word is pretty important), so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

well considering the ranger and illusionist have beastial traits you might be in luck

At the beginning I kinda just assumed furries or other non-humans getting in would just happen naturally. I feel like the presense of the Illusionist means I was kinda right, but not as often as I would have liked.

That’s of course why we have the Beastkin class, which is probably 50/50 animal ear people and actual furries. There’s also other categories like the Trickster, which is like 2/3rds non-humans.

Given that there’s still 12 characters to add, I think its safe to assume there will be one or two more non-humans

Is there a picture of all the playable characters or a wiki?

Honestly, I just don’t like any of the characters I’ve seen so far, and that’s because I’m sorry but I just do not like human characters. The Illusionist still has the top half of a human, so that doesn’t work for me. I really do hope somewhere down the line that you guys do end up eventually adding a real non-human character.

I mean, I kinda don’t like complaining about this kind of stuff, it’s just kind of something I have strong opinions about. That being said, it is nice to see other people complaining about the lack of non-human characters, so I don’t feel too alone. Why not just have a designated character? If people want one so badly, why not add a character without voting so that the people who don’t want human characters have something? If you keep putting up votes and having at least one human/humanoid character in every poll, you risk never being able to fill that wish. And unfortunately, if all the characters are human/humanoid, then there’s going to be people who will like none of the characters.

Putting restrictions on what people can enter kinda defeats the purpose of having a vote where anyone can just submit whatever they like. The class names are a prompt, not a rule, and that freedom encourages more variety and increases the chance of getting something that satisfies more people.

That said, to quote Angel:

This is as close to what you’re asking for as you can get, within reason.

Another problem lies in how this game is monetized–or rather, how it’s not. ETD is funded through Patreon, and one of the benefits offered is the chance to submit and vote for different character designs. Hard restrictions detract from the value of that, since you now are unable to just submit whatever you like. That’s a big deal when new characters and content are as labor-intensive as they are.

Here’s the question: how many of those people ARE there? The actual demand for not-remotely-human characters in a game that’s already built up an audience around its human (or monster girl) characters is kind of unknown atm, verifiable only through a poll which hasn’t been held yet. And out of everyone who wants furry characters, how many would choose one over a human(oid)? This is potentially valuable information, but at the end of the day, only Angel can choose to pick the brains of the people who give him money–who, again, hold all the power in what wins the vote.

Oddly enough, we had a similar situation recently where Angel decided to gauge the community’s feelings on male characters. I wouldn’t hold my breath, but I would wait to see what happens with Beastkin before throwing in the towel on inhuman adventurers.

There’ll be people who like none of the characters either way, nothing anyone can do about that.

I can tell you right here and now, there are no ā€˜Furry’ characters near as I can tell. Closest to what you’re looking for would probably be the Faun, both Rabbits and possibly the Alien, but can confirm for a fact that if you’re not interested in the Illusionist because she’s ā€˜too Human’, every other design thus far is just as Humanoid at the very least, if not moreso. Even the aforementioned designs (though the Beastkin (formerly Ranger) Bunny has a digitigrade stance).

But if you always leave it to chance, then you have the potential of one group never getting what they want. If you keep the option for a Beastkin race up, you COULD eventually get an anthro. However, you could also just get more humans with animal ears, and if the people who want humans with animal ears keep voting out the anthro characters, then that ruins it for the people that actually want anthro characters. If you really want to appeal to everyone, then it should not be left to chance. There should be a little bit of everything for people that want different things.

I can just say this right now: this was a deal-breaker for me when it comes to games like Genshin Impact or Project X Zone. Because those games only had human and humanoid characters when they could easily have supported non-humans, that made me not want to play those games. For me, personally, it gets a little more deep than just simply wanting non-human characters, but I don’t know if it would be appropriate if I went into every reason why I do not like all human character rosters. But I can tell you this with utmost honesty: when I say I don’t like them, that is an understatement.

How many people want anthro characters? I’m not sure, but I can honestly say I do not like humans with cat ears for various reasons. For one, I don’t even see the logic behind them. How do the genetics of a human get altered so perfectly that they only gained the ears and a tail of an animal and nothing else? A human altered heavily to gain the Aesthetics of a cat to look like an anthro cat? I can buy it, but JUST the ears and tail? Also, you have all the things about humans that some people would find boring with very few of the things that make animals cool to that people. IMO, the coolest part of any animal is almost always the face. I like animal characters because they are more diversifiable in my opinion. It’s hard to explain, but for me, you can make a wolf Look cute. You can make a wolf look badass. Maybe it just comes from being asexual and the fact that humans are the most common animals there are, but I do not think you can do either of those things with humans. And yes, I’ve heard the argument about humans being relatable and what not, but I’ve seen many human characters in media, and they rarely are for me. Only when they have non-human support can I ever really relate to them because I relate to the idea that animals, nature and other creatures are good and valuable as living creatures: a mindset that feels like it’s becoming more and more rare.

As for what kind of non-human characters I like, generally I’m not that picky. As long as they are visually different from humans. There are particular animals I would rather see than others. I’d rather see an elephant than a cat or a dog but that’s because cats and dogs are common. You don’t see elephants in media that often. At the same time you see humans weigh more than you’ll see cats and dogs, so an anthropomorphic cat and dog would be better than nothing, and because those animals are popular, they would be safer than some others. Still, I wouldn’t mind a bear character. Bears are pretty common and they do fit with the weight gaining theme, usually depicted as fat animals.

I don’t want to do it here, but I honestly have a lot to say on the matter and why it bothers me to see games go for an all-human / humanoid roster when they could have other creatures. Is there a rant Forum or something where I could explain more on the matter?

You’re going to need to drop it here, at the very least. This is getting wildly off topic, and you’ve said your piece, please move on.

At this point I think you would be better served looking for a game that caters to furries rather than a game that might possibly have a furry in the future

Yeah, you’re right. That is a problem I have had in the past and is something I really need to improve on.

So B Angel, I bet the next Update is about adding sound in the game Right, not just music, we are talking Chomp sounds, Belly sounds and burp sounds right?

The next update is actually the new levels, the update after that will be sound effects.

While I haven’t made my final decision, my plan is for the SFX to be arcadey and abstract. Maybe 8bit/16bit. I don’t have plans for adding realistic sound effects

That would go really well with the music, too!

My plan was to set up a discord server once some things in my real life situation have settled down. I originally made this plan in February, but things keep coming up hahah, you know how it is
