It’s here! At last! The long awaited gallery option! Now you can look at all those pretty pictures without having to deal with that pesky gameplay getting in the way!

What’s that? What about people who hate pictures, you ask? What about people who want to read a bunch of text and lore and plot and boring stuff like that? Don’t worry, if you’re boring we got all the text you can shake a stick at! We got bestiary entries, lore, biographies, and the conclusions to several character arcs. (Did you know we had character arcs? They’re in there, they’re just really tiny. Be sure to squint!)

What’s that? Gameplay? Ah, who needs gameplay. This is 2025 baby! Gameplay is so last decade! It’s all about lore and monetization now. Gamers these days want to spend 40 dollars on a 5% chance to be allowed to look at a jpeg of their waifu!

Wait, the waifus in my game are freely available? OH NO! My CFO is gonna go ballistic on me! GOTTA RUN!!!

This update includes:

  • A Bio page for each player character with sprite gallery, biography, fun facts, and made up stats!
  • New weight stages for the Spy and Beastkin
  • Art for all the WIP enemies in the Darkhelm levels
  • NPCs and cutscenes for the Darkhelm and Time Witch levels
  • 36 new bestiary entries!

Can you show me the errors in the console again? I’m curious if the most recent update changed anything

So is this the Priestess’s Girlfriend? If so what happened to her?

Most of this will be covered by the cutscene text for the latest set of levels (when it gets added)

Maybe like this week or next. I already have it done but there’s a few more things I want to do before I push another update.

You know I feel like we’re missing something.

We have the Lady, the Time Witch, and the Feaster of heroes so what could we be missing? Because I remember something about beating them would allow us somewhere but where?

hmm yeah what are we missing?

Anyway so something near the beginning of the game something broke at the gingerbread man area
Edit: noticed that the thing matches with the map but the story doesn’t make sense now

I feel like we’re missing a [Royal person] but I don’t know who

Hello! Here’s a little news post I wanted to write up about my future plans. I plan on making several changes, and I don’t want anybody to be taken by surprise.

Eat the Dungeon

As mentioned previously, the next update to Eat the Dungeon will be v1.0, the final content update. It will include the final four levels, the final boss, as well as all cutscenes and bestiary entries for those final levels, all in one go. Any updates after v1.0 will be bug fixes only.

Once v1.0 is complete, I will create a downloadable desktop version of Eat the Dungeon. I’m going to make this in Unity, and put it on Itch.io as PWYW. Why Unity you may ask? Well honestly I’m pretty sick of working in JavaScript. When I started Eat the Dungeon I had a pretty inflated idea of my own ability to learn new things and thought I could just figure it out as I go. But now I’m really running up against the limits of my abilities. Maybe I got stupider sometime in the last five years or maybe I’m just older and less patient, but I’m really struggling with JavaScript and web based games. Unity is a technology I’ve used in the past and I’m much more confident in my ability to use it going forward.

Anyway , can you believe Eat the Dungeon is almost done? It’s gone a long way from a janky prototype on a black background. Thank you for supporting me all the way through!

Game 2

That’s right, after the desktop version of Eat the Dungeon, I will begin work on a new game. What kind of game? I’m not sure yet! My plan is to assemble 3-4 different pitches, and then let patrons vote on which one they like the best. I’m still working on pitches, but later today I will also post the current WIP documents for paid patrons to view and discuss.

Here’s what I’m currently planning for the next game (though all of this may be subject to change):

  • It will be a desktop application built in Unity
  • It will be freely available (at least during development)
  • It will be updated monthly
  • Paid patrons will receive updates early

The Patreon

When work begins on Game 2, I will also redo all the Patreon tiers. My aim for Game 2 is to make Patreon/Game 2 my main gig and main source of income. The biggest change will be the removal of the $1 tier. I’ve seen and heard a lot of stuff about how a $1 tier doesn’t hold up after all the various fees/cuts/etc and I think it’s a very convincing argument.

This is my current plan for the new Patreon tiers (though all of this may also be subject to change):

$3 tier

  • Voting power
  • Previews of sprites/other assets

$5 tier

  • Previous benefits
  • +Access to Game 2 builds three months early

$10 tier

  • Previous benefits
  • +Name in credits

$25 tier

  • Previous benefits
  • +Name in credits (extra big font)

I really want to rededicate myself to the Patreon with the development of Game 2. I plan on posting most (if not all) art assets as previews for patrons as soon as they’re ready. I want polls to be more frequent as well.

Thanks for reading all this haha, I hope you are as excited as I am about the completion of Eat the Dungeon and for the future of Game 2. Please let me know what thoughts, questions, or concerns you have!

You know something that’s been in my mind for bit is what would a legacy version of Eat the Dungeon look like (Well with many changes of course)

Sorry I’m not really sure what you mean by this

Like the Eat the Dungeon prototype mixed the Eat the Dungeon of now like that icons for attacks, sneaks, praying, and magic looked in the prototype and the Warrior and the Witch looked like their prototype versions
(Also sorry for saying this 11 hours later)
