Eat The Dungeon General Discussion

11 hours is plenty reasonable for a reply imo

In that case a legacy version would mostly just be uglier, like the old ui icons are super bad lol

Well I was thinking by making it 60 to 70% of modern Eat the Dungeon and 30 to 40% Prototype Eat the Dungeon so that why people might not notice PEtD’s flaws maybe

I’m not sure what the benefit of a legacy version would be, except maybe for bringing back the original Warrior/witch sprites

I personally prefer the original witch design, to the current one

One of the future pitches I’m considering is a flashier rebuilt deluxe version of eat the dungeon for desktop. I was thinking of adding the old Warrior and Witch as new characters in the deluxe version

Epic that is 2 things I have wanted for a while, Classic witch and a desktop version

Funny idea, but what if the final boss is like a boss rush of all the previous bosses from the grape dragon to the Lady of Flame and Light?

While several bosses make appearances as normal enemies during the final levels, I was nervous about doing a boss rush because a lot of the bosses are tailored to specific characters. My goal with the final level set is for them be beaten by a wide variety of team comps while still being appropriately challenging

Play the final version here!

The final version of Eat the Dungeon is here! The final boss is revealed and our heroes may just save the world (and maybe their waistlines)?

None of this would have been possible without the generosity of my patrons! Thank you so much!

  • The final boss
  • 14 new bestiary entries
  • A new BGM track
  • Fixed the layout of the gingerbread levels

I’m gonna say it:
I hate this final world!
It’s just SO annoying, constantly throwing combinations of enemies & blockades that completely invalidate any strategies you throw at it, leading to several minute-long runs!
ā€œJust use different charactersā€ Gee, i would if they weren’t so late in the game investing THOUSANDS, if not MILLIONS of points i gathered over my 2 year long playthrough for levels to get them even remotely on par seemed completely pointless, & i’m tired of people pretending that mandatory grinding is good gameplay!
The fact some of these seem to be designed to REQUIRE specific characters for them to be beatable in under 20 minutes without having any idea what layout comes next & how that could bring everything to a screeching halt just KILLS what was once a game i really liked!

I’m curious to hear which rooms specifically you found troubling. I’ll admit I was nervous about the two rooms in R&D that require a ranged weapon user.

I’d also like to hear your preferred team comps. ETD for me is about assembling teams of adventurers to tackle specific obstacles, which is a tricky tightrope to walk

I think I know exactly what level you mean. ā€œThe Machine Palaceā€, right?

Yeah, it took me numerous attempts to figure out the right comp (or, at least, one that worked for me to get the S).

I ended up doing Magus, Necromancer, Priestess, Spy. Remember to use the Magus and Priestess for supporting and taking out their respective targets (possibly by adding Cheese to the Priestess’s targets). Also, remember that the Magus CAN hit things behind the walls – just target the walls with his attack.

I will say, it might be grind-y to invest in new characters. Though, honestly, I don’t think it’s all that grind-y since only two (arguably only one) stats really matter:

  1. Strength. Obviously good, pretty much always useful, I don’t need to explain this.
  2. Metabolism. The real thing gating you from attacking is digestion a lot of the time. Attack speed can be circumvented through Support items and characters.

I got S rank on all missions without putting a single point in Speed and Capacity. Since those two stats are useless, you can ā€œinvestā€ in a character by simply getting their strength to like 60-80 and then having a high-metabolism-strength support carry them otherwise (like the Bard, who is absolutely the best character in the game).
