I’m almost hoping for a tie-breaker round to start up, even if it’s unlikely at this point of time.

Hello friends, I want to announce the final winner for the Engineer class design. But first I want to address how contentious this design poll has been.
While the Clockwork design has the most votes, there are significant and vocal contingents for other designs. Being excited for your favorite is wonderful, but please remember to be courteous to your fellow fan. Do not forget that we are all here for our shared love of fantasy adventurers getting fat as fuck by beating up monsters. Eat the Dungeon is a very silly game, and we should embrace that light-heartedness.
Please do not call other designs boring, generic, or bad . Taste is subjective, and we should remember this. Regarding creative decisions, my mantra is always " The one that gets made is the one that will be good. " You can debate the relative potential of the designs, but right now they are all potentialities , not actualities . The one that gets picked will be the one that’s good, because it will be the one that receives the care, time, and attention to be made good.
For fans of the losing designs, know that I am sad too . While it is always great to select a final design, it is bittersweet because many other designs have to lose out. In a perfect world, every design would be able to implemented. For you, I have the following announcements:
- Losing designs will be implemented as story NPCs in v0.12 . What that looks like exactly is something I’m still figuring out, but I think it would be cool to have 2 frames each, for a before and after effect.
- I will post a poll for patrons about revising the final vote/tiebreaker rules . It is always my desire to see the votes reflect patron’s desires, and I wish to find the best methodology for that. The current rule is that a final tiebreaker round will occur if there is a 5% margin between the top results. We can expand this margin, or always do a final showdown vote.
Remember, that in all things, to be excellent to each other .
With that done, I will now announce that the Clockwork Engineer is indeed the next character to added to be Eat the Dungeon . Please look forward to her making her appearance next week:
Disappointing, not going to lie, but congratulation to Erill. Must admit, despite personal frustrations she looks quite good here.
Cutest design, though I was rooting for the Doll too.
Now I want to see those buttons in action, nfu.
I’m fine with the winner and like the design; my larger personal concern is just the (perceived) lack of variety over successive votes. Kind of puts it in a situation where the 40% vote gets 10% of the roster and the 60% gets 90%, though that’s admittedly an oversimplification of things. I’m not sure revising tiebreaker votes will alleviate that tension, unfortunately.
That said, I certainly recognize it’s ultimately a matter of personal taste and have no hard feelings.
I was rooting for dwarf, I think the game could use a redhead, but this girl looks pretty badass on the second look. Plus all those buttons and straps could make for some more interesting gains…
I’ve given up hope on the kitsune ever getting voted in, and have genuinely lost interest in getting invested in these votes moving forward.
Don’t worry, I doubt there is going to be only human based designs every single time. Kitsune still has the chance, just need hope (and votes) for her to get in.
Kitsune’s really arent that “out there”. The really short goblin girl kind of was I think, but I dont see why people would be completely disinterested in a cat-girl of sorts?
No love for the Bunny?
Also, Erill’s suggestion for this month is a catgirl Necromancer. A ‘Nekro/Nekomancer’ if you will.
When Ranger gets voted on there’s a good chance she could be selected. She’s pretty cute and a top heavy girl with bottom focused gain hits a lot of notes for me, personally.
Well they did say the unelected designs would become npcs
Maybe side missions could be made where a short story line unfolds and they grow over, a gallery as mentioned previously would slot in well for this but until the game is complete at its baseline we should wait for the metaphorical gallery and side/challenge quests
I’d be surprised if she doesn’t one way or the other. Personally hoping the Bunny makes it, but if she or the Kitsune win, the other could have another go in the new Beastkin class.
Perhaps the NPCs could be shopkeepers from where you buy items from once they are unlocked from the score ranking. A dwarven smithy and a goblin alchemical peddler could fit the bill.
And hey, they could grow fat using the same currency with which you buy upgrades- makes sense as it’s transferring fat power, right?
Indeed but it’ll be our dear dev who decides
I’ve decided to stop transferring losing designs to other classes because coordinating it with former patrons is prohibitively difficult and I kind of feel like the practice is unfair to designs that were originally intended for the class.
Possibly. I haven’t settled on a final implementation of NPCs yet
i mean some point later down the line past version 1 you could do something like a donation goal characters or a second set. Also teaming up with other creators would be cool as well. (also for past version 1)
Maybe but that’s very far in the future haha
I don’t really plan on collaborating with others. A huge part of my day job is coordinating a remote team and if I’m being completely honest I absolutely fucking hate it
Not a people person or you have to deal with jerks or fools
Mostly I just hate the dynamics of coordinating remote work
