As long as you trigger the shrine girl scene 3 times before the next stage she’ll start to gain, either with you or independently

Interesting, I’ve not always found that to be true but I also have no insight into what other things could affect it or if I’d moved too fast in a particular stage and cut off that route.
Can you provide more context? Where are you at where it makes you start at the beginning? Do you get some kind of error or game over?
