Forks: A Weight Gain Visual Novel (Cancelled, all assets posted for everyone)

I choose to believe that the less time is spent on community updates and outreach, the more time is spent on development. Given the commitment we’ve seen over the span on this project, informed in part by the past community outreach, it’s not a question of if but when.
I’d like the full game released tomorrow too, but I’d rather pass on daily or weekly updates if it means we get the actual game a bit sooner.

on a public patreon post https://www.patreon.com/posts/update-1-31-46942075 forks is mentioned:

It’s mostly about aria but it mentions this:

“and trying to finish a content update for Forks.”

Oh hey, I did mention that! My short-term memory can be pretty poor

Seriously, it’s a part of why Forks takes so long. I have a flurry of false starts and I’ll even forget what happened in earlier scenes, but eventually things come together. I’ve got about ~3800 words for future Forks scenes, but that’s after about ~6000 in dead ends. That means the next content update should add another ~15% to the game’s total length.

@tharsus Man, I hope it doesn’t feel like I’m abandoning you guys! I’m sorry if it does, but the fact of the matter is that I don’t have too much new to show >_>. I don’t want to show new portraits because I’ve already revealed a chunk of each girl’s sequence. Currently I’m the only Team Spoon dev working on Forks, the rest have moved onto Aria because there wasn’t much more for them to do. However

@Biggirlfan7 I made a very silly error and… Don’t actually have a rear shot of Grace. Lots of portraits, but rear shots were going to be CGs, and we don’t have any new Forks CGs ready! I’m afraid you’ll have to use your imagination a while longer, but at least the rest is real!

I’m a conditional extrovert, I can be social but it takes effort! It’s what I meant when I said I’d be a poor community manager  . I’m here though, send me a message or ask a question and I’ll answer! Otherwise, I’m focused on the work ahead. You can ask the other members of Team Spoon, I hope I’m friendly but I prefer business over small talk. Gotta have an objective (because I must’ve played way too many videogames growing up!)

Uhh, do I have anything good to give you guys? Let’s see…

Believe it or not, that’s from a separate argument. Rea and Hannah still going on like they were married

I’ll try not to cry :frowning: I’m just waiting for this magical “Oh trust me I have a potbelly too, there’s just two of them behind me” we’ve been promised

Speaking of marriages, can we expect epilogues that show how the girls are like “years later”?

Think I caught a typo in this preview, unless you’re referencing a parody of Little Debbie?

@Shugoki I keep bouncing back and forth on whether or not I want to use real companies or not. Plus, Little Dabbie, complete with dabbing cowboy on the box, would be a delightfully cringe product promotion. I might change it back since I’m not technically charging money for this.

Sometimes I just add lines that pop into my head in the moment. That Grace line about her butt being two bellies was only thrown in at the last minute, I didn’t mean to set any unmet expectations

Same with this:

Delta
Everyone was just lined up correctly!

@ThisAnon Maybe, but that would require more portraits or CGs and isn’t currently planned. However, one of Grace’s outfits will probably give you a good idea of what ~30 year old her is like.

The more you know. Honestly I would prefer little Dabbies. Just because that idea with the cowboy is way too good to past up on for me. But y’know you do what you think is right.

The famous movie Flight (2012) starring denzel washington was sued by a couple companies that make and sell alcohol, because they didn’t want it to be known that alcoholics drink alcohol.

The movie won, essentially claiming that it didn’t need the intellectual property rights for random objects in the background or whatever (I’m not a lawyer and this isn’t a legal argument, but at least morally you’d probably be okay). Also said objects were in the foreground of the shot (front and center in some images from the movie), but they were the background of the plot. It wasn’t a movie about why smirnoff was evil, it was a movie about an alcoholic who always had alcohol around him in every other scene, varying types and brands, he was an alcoholic, whatever was around he drank.

Also it’s a pretty great movie.

You’re doing great! I meant what I said - there’s such tremendous goodwill with the community established already (imo) that you’d be totally in the clear to drop off the map (or scale back to monthly updates, etc) and simply provide a playable update when it’s ready. I am, in fact, in favor of that approach - I don’t particularly crave spoilers and would rather play it when it’s done.

Still, love what you do and respect the way you do it. I was more interested in reining in the community a bit, sharing my thoughts along the way.

Work at your own pace. On the side note of Aria. When the game comes out is it going to be free or do you have to pay for it.

Apologies if this question has been answered or breaks some rule. But as of right now who is currently the hardest and easiest character to write for? Or do you view them as all equally hard to write for.

I can’t imagine asking that breaks any rules
Right now, Grace is the easiest to write for, and Hannah the hardest. For Grace, it’s because her speech and thought processes are just really easy to write, her first post-demo scene flew by. For Hannah, it’s a matter of drive, as I know most players like neither her nor her story trajectory.

Hannah would do really well in a different game, but that’s also why I purposefully put her in Forks

I joke a lot about how grace is the best character (she is by the way) but I’m definitely the most excited for Hannah’s story and where it will lead I think she’s a very interesting character and it’ll be fun to see how she reacts to Alex gaining on purpose if/when she finds out and her relationship with Rea is interesting to say the least overall I think she’s a rad dude

Hmm I was expecting Grace to be the hardest. But to be honest I’m fine with Hannah. But yeah I’m kinda curious to where her story leads us.

Hannah is my favorite and I like her story trajectory. It’s more complicated and nuanced than the other stories, which makes it more engaging and dynamic. Harder to predict, more suprirsing and imo a better read.

If the story was just exactly whatever any random fan already imagined in their head, what would be left to read

Why not then make hannahs romance route properly apart of Alexs weight loss route perhaps?, or did you considered it but you couldn’t figure out a way how?..

Yeah, I’m going to come out of the woodwork to say Hannah is my favorite as well - and Grace is actually (currently) my least favorite! (Not to say I dislike her or anything - you’re doing a great job with all of them - but of the current options, she was my last choice) Personality-wise, I like her second best of all the characters (after Morgan, and just a whisker ahead of Alex, in fact), and am by far the most curious to see where her route goes of all the options. Not sure if this is what’s intended, but I can see at least a half-dozen possible ways in which the outcome of her route might see her put on a lot of weight, and I’m really looking forward to/hoping for her to intentionally surpass her peak weight.
