Yeah, I’d jump on the patreon immediately if it was for Forks but I don’t have any interest in a non-wg focused project either, I’m really happy we’re getting Forks of course, but it’s a bit of a bummer not to be able to support more like this.
Perfect.
But steering the topic back to forks the best I can before the mods come… I’ve been kinda wondering about this one Rea outfit the one that seems like she’s in a uniform (around post number 400 here) and considering I haven’t played the current demo for over a month it does make me wonder 3 things
-
Is there gonna be more content added to the beginning part.
-
Is Rea gonna go back a few sizes later in the story.
-
Or is she just holding the chub in.
Either way I’m a tad curious about that but it’s probably gonna play into her route so I guess I’ll just wait and see.
It’s been stated by @Tron that you we’ll be able to go back to your original size or lower. The prologue is only starting you’re progression in how you want to take it. Any of the characters in the future updates are gonna be able choose their weight depending on your choses and actions within the game.
As far as I can tell from Tron’s past comments.
Ok thank for answering.
I really like how forks is set in real reality. Something about it makes it very engaging. While I might like slaying dragons in video games… a VN fetish game is more like reading erotic literature, which makes me prefer the setting of reality over the setting of MMORPG combat.
But ya know, there are a lot of people out there who were raised in the forge of barrens chat. So I imagine aria will have a big audience of people who were teenagers asking to cyber in WoW in 2008 :-p
I agree, honestly as much as I like fantasy settings I see very few fetish games actually set during modern day which is a shame because I think it works well with making it reasonably grounded. Its actually one of my favorite things about both of the demos its honestly kinda cozy
Just played what was available and truly enjoyed the story so far. My only issue is that I can not return to the previous page after clicking by accident. Other than that I hope to see more!
Did you use the scroll on the mouse?
Everything outside of the writing is finished, so Tron is the only person currently working on the project
The subtlest FF4 reference was, like Cecil’s transformation from an emo Dark Knight to a Paladin, Alex going from thin to fat
Memes aside I really enjoyed the writing, Alex’s moment of conflict about her weight when the debate-team-guy insults her and everyone leaves the room was well done, one thing a lot of fattymedia doesnt really capture is the social pressure and doubts that weight gain brings irl
Back! If it seems like I’ve kept anyone in the dark, it’s because I was there
Most of Texas experienced severe weather last week, made even worse for several reasons. My wife and I went without reliable power and water for several days, finally getting back to normal today after the boil water notice was lifted. Mail resumed last Saturday, and that’s where this starts to do with Forks!
Piecing a new PC’s felt like gathering Infinity Stones, but after 5 months I finally got my last part in Saturday. Instead of using my old Windows 10 USB key, I decided to make my own updated one using the Media Create Tool, which I’d never used before.
Due to either my own incompetence, haste, or just not understanding the program, Media Create Tool didn’t use my old USB key. Instead, it used my external USB SSD, which is where I’d been keeping bleeding edge Forks drafts. The entire drive was wiped, but I managed to get most of it back from my cloud backup.
Unfortunately, my last full cloud backup was December, soon after Forks released. Thus, I’ve lost those Forks drafts. I usually keep everything backed up, but my quick, experimental drafts were only stored locally. My writing process was:
- Concepts and story map (stored on cloud)
- Doodles and drafts (local)
- Refined drafts (cloud)
- Insertion into Forks script file (cloud)
- Cleanup, editing, and release (cloud)
When Forks first released, several users pointed out legitimate issues with the intro scenes. Instead of moving forward, I went back and tried to write a better prologue. A better intro never materialized, and I ended up burning myself out feeling like I was writing in a circle. It was my own fault, nobody told me to immediately rewrite the intro, but I couldn’t help myself to try. I would’ve done the same with any other problematic scenes.
Paralyzing myself with the Forks intro led to delays with the new scenes, which led to longer delays due to real life issues taking free time away. I can be a slow writer to begin with, and this meant updates at an outright glacial pace. The “doodles” file which is usually for quick scene experiments turned into something bigger than it should’ve been, and when it got deleted, I shouldn’t have been as surprised as I was.
Nonetheless, after losing the 8 new scenes I was working on, I’m a little too angry with myself to jump right in . I need some time off to work on something new while my Forks batteries recharge, and so for now I’m going to be joining the rest of Team Spoon on Aria full-time. It’s for the best, I’m honestly starting to fall behind those guys
To recap:
What happened?
I stupidly deleted the file containing the drafts of 8 new Forks scenes (2 Hannah, 2 Rea, 2 Grace, 1 Morgan, 1 Alex).
What’s still there?
Everything else, including all art and the current release. There are 2 partially-implemented new scenes as well, totalling maybe 10-20 minutes of gameplay.
What am I doing about it?
Switching to Aria for now until the steam stops coming out of my ears and I feel ready to rewrite those scenes (or go in a new direction).
What have I learned?
Back up everything having to do with any project, even things meant to be quick and elastic. Also, don’t bang my head against the wall to fix what isn’t completely broken- that can wait!
What about you guys?
For now, I’ll be switching gears to Aria full-time until I’m ready to jump back to Forks. I won’t likely announce if/when I do that, as I’ve done poorly with update schedules and I don’t want to keep people waiting any longer when they have to. I’d rather surprise everyone with a new update that I was confidently able to push at my own pace. I’m hoping Aria’s going to be different enough to wash away my frustration with creative juices.
For any patrons who exclusively want Forks content, feel that their money was misplaced as no new Forks updates have come out, and don’t want their money going towards Aria, please let me know with proof of subscribing and I’ll PayPal you a refund. I don’t want anyone to feel their support has gone to waste. Forks is not dead, but I’m very disappointed at myself and I could use some positivity from doing something else.
What happens now?
I’m going to stick around on WG and reply to anyone’s questions in this thread. I’ve been communicating with site staff and plan to host Forks here to make it easier to push out updates when I return to it. I’m also going to host Aria here once we’ve made sufficient progress; I don’t plan to create an Aria thread until there’s a public demo to go with it. Until then, updates will stay on Patreon.
And… I think that’s it? If there’s something I’ve missed, let me know and I’ll answer!
Ooh, and I’ll also talk about what I’m calling the Nuclear Option! If for whatever future reason I do decide to stop Forks, I promise to release all unfinished assets, and users will be able to use those to finish the game on their own (as the current build is not encrypted). I stake my reputation and account on upholding this. If it should so happen that I haven’t stopped Forks but simply haven’t worked on it for a long time, let me know and I’ll put the Nuclear Option to the floor here for discussion. One way or another, everyone’s going to see Toro’s portraits someday!
Well, I did post something six days ago, wondering if Aria will feature exotic anthro TFs, like pachyderms? We don’t see those at all in TF-VNs.
Thanks for reminding me, I’m sorry I missed it! Last week threw me for a loop and honestly I still feel turned around; I’m pulling a late-nighter right now to catch up on my job because everything shut down.
Currently, we do plan for exotic TFs (it takes place in Polynesia!), but not specifically elephants/mammoths. We’ve got onis, feathered serpents, angels*, and what we’re presently calling a “tentacle girl”. We’re trying to keep things within Toro’s comfort zone, and right now that means not changing the face too drastically. For example, no beaks for now.
However, one of Aria’s plusses is its modularity. By design it’s easy to add new content, so things that may not be a go now could be later!
*This is actually a main character’s default ending, but it won’t be an angel like anyone’s expecting. If it makes it into the final game, I hope you’ll think back to when you got this preview! It’s going to push Toro’s skills hard, and I’m seriously excited for any patrons looking forward to it. Toro’s unleashed and he’s already making cool stuff
For people who just want to make everyone fat, we have an ending for that too. Currently, we have it such that you can literally ignore the greater plot just to make everyone fat instead.
Edit: I’m taking my lessons from Forks to heart and already have everything backed up.
I’m really glad you’re doing well after going through the nightmare that happened in Texas, as someone who has gone through something similar in my own country I can definitely relate to that whole mess and it’s great that you’re okay.
However…I can’t help but feel a bit sad at how development is going right now even if the situation is completely understable. While I’m interested in both Aria and Forks almost equally, ever since Aria’s announcement the fear of Forks being overtaken by Aria became a thing and it feels like it could become reality at some point as things are going, or even worse as now a “Nuclear Option” is being put on the table as a possibility. I’ll try to be optimistic for sure but each update I’ve read since the demo released has been lowering my expectations more and more despite loving it so much
Thank you for the kind words, and I’m sorry you’ve had to go through something similar.
The Aria/Forks problem is entirely my own doing, and I take full responsibility. In proper game dev, the scenario and much of the script would be written prior to any art commitment, but Toro and I instead worked together over several drafts to get Forks where it is today. Unfortunately, that meant everyone was done with Forks and needed something to do so we could stay together as a team. Enter Aria! I’ve taken what I’ve learned from Forks to speed the scenario along, and I’ve already got more finished at this stage of development than I did for Forks. The plan is to hopefully stay ahead of Toro and the team.
I like to be optimistic too, but I understand there’s a possibility that Forks may not release as originally intended (if at all). If that were to happen, I wouldn’t want anyone to walk away empty handed, and that’s why I brought up the option. It wasn’t meant to be scary (although the name sort of is ), but rather a reassurance that nobody will be left with nothing. No matter what happens, there will be new content.
To you guys, I’ve seen these portraits for months now
What I’m hoping will happen is that I’ll whirlwind some progress on Aria, and when some cozy Forks inspiration hits, I’ll be able to take my time with it (some dialogue took a long time, though I’m glad it worked out and people enjoyed it!) and surprise everyone with a release. I feel guilty for missing my own February 1 deadline for new Forks content, and I don’t want to push for something I can’t deliver again.
I can (usually) do weekly Aria updates, but I won’t post strict demo deadlines for now.
I think it might be more efficient in general to focus on one project at a time whether it be Forks or Aria, it will result in SOMETHING coming out faster than nothing. Also, I hope you understand Forks is such an incredible concept and I wanna really stress that a weight gain visual novel at this level of production quality and scale hasn’t come around and most likely won’t come around again since it seems that Team Spoon sadly isnt going to be weight gain oriented in the future, so it would really be a shame for it to go to waste and have to have all its assets dumped with the story and cgs unfinished.
Perhaps a better alternative would give the writing responsibility to another well known, quality writer from the community? Maybe you could map out the story scenes and hand off script duty to another writer that way you can just focus on Aria if your process is slow? I think this is a good option because there are a lot of good writers like yourself in the community (I really like woot’s stuff) and this would not only not spoil Toro’s artwork but also would make sure that the released version of Forks has a high writing standard curated by yourself.
Edit: Also I really want to stress how important it is that you DONT do the nuclear option, if you do that than that’s pretty much the death sentence for this project, half of what makes this so good is the cgs and high quality script, if you nuclear option it its a confirmation we will never get the project released in that state
Now that I got the meme out of the I am sorry to hear you had to go through all that must have sucked hope you’re doing alright now. about the move to aria I think its fine I would rather you work on something you want to work on and enjoy rather then work on something you feel is a bit of a slog at the moment, I am a little disappointed to see that work on forks has stopped but hey what are you gunna do about it I wish you the best of luck Tron no matter what happens
I wanted to vent my disappointment upon hearing the lack of progress made in Forks’ content updates but immediately felt like a shitty person upon thinking over why there hasn’t been a Forks update. As much as I look forward to the eventual release of updates for Forks, your mental health and overall well-being is much more important than some weight-gain fetish VN. There’s been a lot of people affected by the recent flash freeze in Texas, so it’s no surprise that someone in our own community was also affected. Take these tasks on at your own pace, you’re already delivering some of the best content available in the weight gain fetish world, so losing you due to a lack of interest would truly suck - we love having Team Spoon around. Power through Tron, we’ll be here eagerly anticipating any update you have for us!
I very sad to hear this but i am interested to see how Aria pans out so i’ll keep subbing to you tron for now as your reason is understandable and i hate to see you crunch something out in the end although since forks is now on hold again!, if you want to then why not show us some the sprites for all the characters that was for that update and one to two future updates since it might be a long while before we see any update from forks?
I’m sure it’s too late for this to matter (I get the feeling this event happened days ago), but if you delete a file, say by deleting it manually on windows, then emptying the recycling bin, OR if you perform a quick format on a drive again say in windows.
The file isn’t actually deleted and if the drive is not being used, the file can easily be recovered using something like testdisk or ntfsdelete or photorec (which are free).
A full format, or a delete done by some other programs like apparently some torrent clients will delete a file “for real”.
Especially in the case of say a text file (because it’s so small). Even if you do continue to use a drive on which the file was deleted, there is still a chance you can recover it, because if the drive has tons of empty space, and the file is tiny, and it’s un-encrypted text, the odds of overwriting the file are somewhat smaller than for say a video file or a game or operating system. Additionally if you carve a deleted text file and it’s only partially complete, a partially recovered unencrypted text file will still contain readable text. (carving can be done even in situations undelete cannot).
This is more of a public service announcement on the topic, than an attempt to backseat tron. I’d guess that whatever happened to the writing drafts violated my above exceptions and/or tron already tried the above.
I’ve had the above information totally save an entire drive before, as well as having it be of no help at all, as well as having it save roughly half of a drive.
