I’m a silly guy who got a job in oil & gas; I know it’s not really a sustainable industry, and my job’s not long for the world whenever my ancient boss kicks it[/quote]
(As someone who’s seen people I knew take geology related jobs on the Dark Side (mining & exploration) this sounds interesting. There may be options out there re; jobs with some reasonable crossover, depending on what you’re doing)
Sadly Sims automation is quite terrible and doesn’t take personalities in to the calculation at all (better utilized in Sims 2/3 but automated sims in those games won’t do much outside of keeping their needs up and going to work).
Damn can we just take a minute to appreciate forks has officially been in development for 2 years now like hot damn I was scrolling up the feed today and id just like everyone to appreciate how far this has come
For reals, I got two notifications in my inbox and they’re not here in this thread . If anyone called me, please do it again because I may’ve missed it!
Anyway, we’re about a month off from our baby’s due date, and while that’s slowed things down (seriously, first COVID and then a pregnancy. I’m happy to be a dad but give me some breathing room, world!) I’ve been working away while I can!
I’m sorry if I’ve been quiet, I thought I should wait until I had more to show for an update. Forks is a more grounded project than Aria, and that often means my more personal feelings of the moment are captured in Alex’s story. For instance, here’s the continuation of her conversation with Rea, as seen in the last check-in:
Don’t we all, Alex? Don’t worry, there’s belly talk too. A person once noted me that they liked how Forks didn’t have “typical VN” dialogue; for better or worse I guess it’s continuing!
My job’s a major drain on both drive and creativity, but I’m glad to give what I can. Me and Toro going back-and-forth on Aria characters has probably kept my creative side alive. Life’d be simpler if I could do this full-time, but until then I need to keep the bills paid
Seriously, it’s been a month since some of these replies in here and I can’t believe it that I’ve lost such track of time! Whoever poked me, thank you. Life’s still in a wonky place. On the plus side, it’s 3:20am for me now, and I should get used to it for when the baby’s here
Great to see another update from you once again and congrats aswell on being a parent soon, i do hope you keep on going with both forks & Aria and find more free-time in the future.
though i am wondering about what will happen in this update with hannah being alexs roomate and Graces response to both situation or perhaps her becoming alexs roomate?- sorry so many possibilities and so many things to consider…
@ThisAnon Thanks! It’s been a risky pregnancy and we’re glad to be nearing the end with everyone healthy
@maldy Thanks! I’d like to keep going on too. I still haven’t made Patreon charge immediately because I’m not in a position for it to, but I’d like to hope I can get there this year.
As for the excerpt I posted above, that’s for Rea’s route, when she becomes Alex’s roommate. Hannah’s her roommate on her route, and same with Grace. Rea and Hannah just want a place to live, Grace has bigger ideas if she’s Alex’s roommate.
I say this as someone who has played a lot of VNs and will continue to play a lot of VNs; that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, since most VN protags are the worst human beings imaginable.
“This guy was the victim of a crime!” “Whelp, time to make him the victim of another one!”
I love these sneak peeks of conversations; it feels like both a preview and a look behind the scenes. Always excited for an update on how Forks is going!
as soon as i saw this i could only picture that one godfarther line ‘I will make an offer you can’t refuse’ to alex kind of spech but that wouldn’t surprise me, heck i can see grace perhaps offering alex to cover the majority of her costs in return she helped her inspiration for her larger art work
Right? This is a sad reality as I study VNs more and more, with Forks setting the high expectations for others work. More connected, realized character with emotional growth is what makes or breaks this kinds of stories for me, and Forks is hitting a spot of actually good, grounded writing for this genre.
Alice in growth academy is another, but even then has to but heads with the fantastical setting, (though it’s approached with the grace of a realistic reactions of “what if” from the characters).
By the way, I know you’ve said you don’t want to bring on additional writers, but I’ve been playing Some Bullshit (there’s a thread about it here somewhere on projects) and the writing is really, really good. If the guy who writes that isn’t too busy or is down to clown on Forks I highly, highly suggest checkin Some Bullshit out and seein what you think.
