In a distant patch of wilderness, in a time of abundance, a servant serves its mistress. You’ll have to play and see what happens.
LOVE this so far, very cute, feels great to play, and i adore the amulet mechanic to let you manipulate the randomness. Getting some crashes but I can’t for the life of me figure out why. Great work nonetheless!
I’m absolutely ecstatic about this one, just hits everything and love the designs and artwork and music. I’m sadly getting a consistent crash on stage 3 that so far has kept me from progressing any farther. I can’t really see what triggers it either.
What exactly is the issue for non-Nvidia systems trying to play this? Because I have a Nvidia 2060 and when I open the game keeps stuttering. Not like ‘dropping frames’, but its literally stuttering like a bad movie reel. Doesn’t fully show it in this screenshot, but its pretty screwed up. It does this both when launching the game itself through winrar and when extracting the zip file.
After looking at it for a bit more it seems like every new frame is basically layering on top of each other. You can see it if you look at all the overlapping cursor icons.
My apologies for everyone having issues. I’m working frantically on resolving it.
I think the clown vomit might be a side effect of using older graphics cards. I’m testing on a rather beefy Nvidia 4070ti and had someone else test with a newer Radeon and there wasn’t issues.
I’m looking into the crashing issues right now. Believe me, if it’s bad for you that the game doesn’t work, it’s pretty nightmarish for me.
HYPOTHESIS: I’m guessing the clown vomit may be due to the game loading all textures at once (this being a lot of cutscene textures), and they’re quite fat in size, so on GPUs with low VRAM it’s fuckin’ everything up. Also, endianness, maybe?
As for the level crashing, I’m figuring it out…
Been getting crashes a lot as well on both level 2 and 3. They’re consistently happening when a new event is dropping for me so I’m guessing one of the events isn’t functioning properly. For reference, I’ve seen the oil spills, rotten food, infinite/half stamina, double points and double capacity events with no issue so far (plus the no-event event of course) so it’s probably not those.
Other than that though it’s a pretty fun game. Optimizing your lines through the different bread patterns is really satisfying to get down, and the art’s cute as hell. Only thing I dislike is when one or two pieces of bread delay the board reset cause they can’t catch up fast enough lol.
Updated (keep in mind that the itch link points to my website, so don’t mind if the updated time is off). Should hopefully fix the crash occurring in levels. Likely little to nothing done about the clown vomit. It’s sad, but there’s so little time I can’t really change much. I’m honestly kind of emotionally devastated that the game’s first impression went so poorly, but that’s how things go, sometimes. I did make things harder on myself by not using a game engine…but with every struggle comes a learning opportunity.
For the future, I suppose I should test on…worse hardware. Alas!
Awwh hey hey!! don’t be so hard on yourself!! its an amazing project with a lot of great work gone into it!!! you did a great job!!! programs are weird and a lot of problems can be hard to find, especially in a game jam!!! lovely work!!
Quite the contrary, I’ve followed your art for a very long time and your other games were just as outstanding! Seeing a submission from you was amazing and above all else the concept of “feed the mistress” is exquisite. The crashing issue is nothing, especially with a fix so fast. Don’t be hard on yourself, we really do appreciate it!
Pushed one more update. I’ve tested with some peeps and that crash bug should be squashed. I tweaked the medal thresholds so that everything is easier and more attainable; plus probably other things. Hopefully now people (with good GPUs, that is) can get a glimpse of the game for once!
Here’s a full video of the game, if you’re wondering what it’s about and you weren’t able to play it on your computer because it explodes…
This is quite fun! The amulet is a really cool take on the jam’s theme, though I think I’d like it more if the fourth power rerolled the event instead of totally cancelling it. You really need positive events to get good scores in the later levels. I might also be bad though, considering I struggled to even get silver on every stage. And since I am bad, the video upload of the best end is appreciated! It’s nice the little guy gets rewarded so well for its service in the end.
Also want to say, your art is consistently some of the best in these jams, and it’s a big part of why the weight gain feels rewarding.
Didnt have any issues with the original version, the only issue was my skill as i only got bronze and a silver when i finally got the amulet, i honestly thought it would be an unlockable to use in the past levels too but seeing your video, i know now it was just my reflexes that didnt let me get a better ending. Im glad the little guy gets some size too depending on the ending. Great work as always.
Me, and I hope others, appreciate you making this video to show off the game since it doesn’t work for our weaker GPUs. And although it might be a bit presumption to state this, I have to say it LOOKS like the game plays well. Like there’s a real good sense of response and movement, coupled with a it of randomness/strategy with the events and how you can potentially control them. And of course both the sprites and cutscene artwork looks great. Looking forward to whatever you have planned next, for either this game or the next.
The game looks great and I wish I could of played it. I hope you get around to optimizing the shaders and graphics one day, because I can’t see because of the non-unloading images. Sound and gameplay seem to be functional, and I believe graphics are the only problem.
GOOD NEWS. I have tested a new version with an affected user and they report NO PROBLEMS. There will be a new link on itch with the game; if for whatever reason you need the gain jam version, it’s there too for the judges, but there’s literally no difference but the rendering code.
I know I’m a little late, but this is definitely a lovely game! Cute story, neat concept. And I really really appreciate the open-source code, it’s nice to be able to have a native linux build for once (and just to be able to poke through the code too of course). Nice hex seed values by the way, lmao
