how do you know essence slows your xp progress?

I haven’t touched this game since I wrote that comment and this might no longer be the case anymore, but essence acted like “soft” levels that would count toward your total level count and also would effect your character but you couldn’t sacrifice to gain new skills, your xp rate wasn’t effected.

If you wanted to gain the high tier skills you had to de level your character to 1 and then fight hard enemies using your companions, which would give you like 50 levels.

However, even with one essence used on yourself you could go no lower than level 11 because essence counts as 10 levels in a stat you can’t remove via the skill tree sacrifice thing, so you would gain less levels per battle.

And if your goal was to power level those trees gaining 50 levels then sacrificing them immediately was the fastest way to do that.

However that was almost a year ago and that might not be the case anymore.

TL;DR: Essence makes you level up slower by adding levels to your character, not your xp rate.

I don’t think they count as levels, but “levels”, it adds 10 to a stat but I don’t think it affects leveling speed, if it does and it’s slowing down progress, there is a way to get rid of any essence used via an npc near the sewers entrance

in later floors/ Dungeons there are items that will give you a high XP multi and the way i think of essence is PERMA LVL for your char this way even though you have to sacrifice lvls to gets skills unlock you also have to understand that essences is making you a permanent higher lvl than b4 so running the same low lvl floors will make it seem like your lvl up is slower but the truth is your just stronger than b4 so you will have to start grinding higher floors the more essence you consume.

Okay, had finally unlocked Debug mode in the last release and um…

Word of warning to everyone else, do not stack too many enhanced essences on your character when having “grow every turn” active because things get wonky as things go completely out of control.

I’d say at max use like… ten of them.

Also you can’t use ability crystals of either type on Skybreaker, because for some reason it results in them growing in size rather than gaining ap or exp multiplier.

Oh, I figure it’s worth mentioning this here since the author of GrowthRPG doesn’t use this forum.

This project is officially on indefinite hiatus/soft canceled. It was the author’s first game and far too large in scope, and they’ve decided it’s too difficult and exhausting to continue working on. They’re taking a break from game development entirely for 2025, and plan to come back with some smaller project(s) next year.

It’s not entirely clear if they intend to return to GrowthRPG or not after that, it’s in the air currently.
