The category itself is totally clogged with abandoned/shelved games without being archived, and yet winners of game jams that definitely deserve the place aren’t there. Just wondering if it’s too much hassle to update the category. Also questioning if there’s little to no quality control required, as some projects there never even made it past alpha.
Developers just need to ask the mods to be moved to the curated category. The mods then decide if that game is worthy of being put there based on game quality, development status, thread popularity etc.:
For my part I don’t see much use in the category currently, most games get a fraction of the traction that threads in Projects do (only 7 threads have seen any activity in the last month), and it requires a lot of upkeep from the developer to properly make use of the multiple threads per game feature.
The idea of it being a handpicked selection of top-quality games is nice but its numerous flaws are likely a reason why a lot of developers haven’t moved over there. As for archiving them, that’s another thing that the developer has to request, not based on inactivity. You can probably find a dozen different threads explaining why that’s the case.
To add to what @Wulf_Diomhaireachd said we are also planning on decommissioning the category once I can get the main site live so its not been high on our priority list atm.
Have there been any more recent updates on the main site? It sounds very interesting but it’s been 2.5 years since that post so I’m wondering how much progress has been made.
I have been making progress on it but its just been slow. We had to upgrade to Vue3 bc Vue2 went out of support and that threw a few wrenches at us as the auth framework we where using did not upgrade and the UI framework was very slow to upgrade. Also, the last couple of years I have been put on some very high priority projects for the company I work for and those have eaten quite a bit into my time.
I am almost done with getting the security and user stuff done though which is one of the hardest parts and then need to do a refactor of the systems that handle the games which is easier then the security part. Its just a question of time between my irl job and my admin duties on here.
For our size we are quite a bit smaller then people think lol. We have 3 people on the admin team, 2 volunteers and myself. @Krodmandoon who volunteered as our head moderator after our previous one Jux left, @AlexKay who volunteered to be our community manager.
I handle everything else which is basically the tech and business side of things. I make sure our books stay up to date, cover expenses that are not covered by our patreon or the ads we run on the forums, make sure our bills are paid, make sure the back end infra is up to date and functioning correctly, ensure everything is being backed up and we have recovery measures in place, development, ect…
Oh occurred to me as a side note that all of this is on top of our day jobs. We don’t have any dedicated paid staff so everything is mainly volunteers.
