The amount of times I see the word “scam” get thrown around with no substance behind it…
As far as I can tell, this is the first game Fan-artFeeder has made. And like any new dev, they will likely have encountered a horde of bugs that they want to fix before release. Judging by the time since the last update, the bugs are probably more numerous or more complicated than they were expecting so they missed their self-imposed deadline.
One thing I will always vouch for is transparency and consistent communication from devs (note consistent, not constant), it helps build up trust with customers and avoids the sort of mess you see above me. I understand not wanting to admit your game is broken, or that you need a bunch more time to create what you set out to create, but if that isn’t communicated, and especially if you promise a release date then fall silent, then that’s only going to breed distrust.
Now I will agree that there should be more in terms of previews to this game. A title screenshot of a generic looking village and a character sprite that was created months before the game was announced (17th July on their Deviantart) doesn’t exactly sell anything, nor does the very basic description. So far we know nothing other than the player will be working with a godess to fatten everyone (where have I heard that before?) and that there’s some Live2D animations. Not really the instant smash-hit, buy this game for everyone and your dog kind of deal. Not that I would ever hold a game to those sort of expectations, but we know so little and have been promised updates three times now, with nothing coming from that.
Patreon subscribers may feel a little burned from this, but in my view if you’re willing to subscribe to a developer’s Patreon that has so far produced no WIP updates or demos etc., then that’s a gamble you’re entirely responsible for. Fan-artFeeder does have a responsibility to keep those funding them informed, but at the same time those funding them have to be responsible with their own money. This certainly isn’t an ideal situation, but to call it a “scam” right off the bat feels a little far-fetched for what could very easily have a much more innocent explanation.
Just to clarify, i wasn’t calling this particular Dev a scammer. I was saying that my trust with Devs is low due to past experiences. He may very well just be fixing bugs.
sorry for the wait I’m just one guy making this game and I don’t want to spoil the entire game by sending images of all the progress of each character; but I managed to fix the problems that I had connecting the MC’s room to the map where the interactive characters are.
I posted a pool on patreon to choose the size of the game screen, since I illustrate everything in 4K I need to know if a resolution lower of 1920x1080 is better for everyone or I just launch the game in 4K.
Good to hear from you. Having issues come up is normal and expected when developing, as most people here develop as a solo dev or close to it. It’s understandable when it happens. The setting of a date and not meeting it mixed with no limited communication as to what’s going on just makes people feel more on “edge” then normal, especially when a way to support the dev monetarily has been given. As it’s normal for projects like this to take a long time to develop and is what is expected here.
I would just respectfully suggest in any situation like that in the future that more communication is helpful to both you and your audience.
You can mark images as spoiler and blur them with the blur spoilers feature on the forum (just click the cogwheel icon and select it when making a post or editing it.) Not that I’m advocating for spoiler images as personally I’d rather just see stuff in game.
This was originally a game jam game so the lack of info around it was normal and to be expected since you only have two weeks to put together a concept. With it long since transitioning to a project outside of that. The information around the game that would normally be expected and wanted when making a post like this has never come up.
For instance your question of what resolution to launch the game in. What platforms is the game even releasing for? If it’s Windows, Mac, Linux then 1920 x 1080 should be normal and fine (with a 4k option for those that want it or can use it being okay as well.)
Currently your poll is locked behind your patreon and that’s fine if you want to have it that way, but you will get the opinion of forty-four people on the matter for your game. With no other input.
I do think details about the game that would normally have come about by now with a project thread like this would be helpful to you as a dev and the community around you that might/will be interested in your project.
Not spoiling the game but details like the engine, platforms, etc.
Also having info like this in the first post as details that help flesh on your concept with people wanting to try it out will get buried within the thread.
Thanks for the information, since I am new to this, I failed to share those details that you say; I will take this information into my mind when I continue with the project or release new games
although in his defense, resolution is something that can really mess with you if you change it later on, especially in a 2d game. some engines really dont like it when sprite based graphics arent set up perfectly.
I mean yummy is still working on the game, and she wants to make it playable before she releases a demo, just gotta be patient lol, be happy she hasn’t actually given us a release date that she couldn’t fulfill lol.
Absolutely true as well lol tbh I asked her recently if she still is working on it lol, apparently she is making time for both commissions brr comic and the visual novel, I’m surprised by how much she works lol
Also not complaining but it doesn’t help that she has no max commision slots for her work, I feel she gets flooded by commisioners.nowadays lol, but yeah she told me.shes not exactly sure but she hopes she can release.the demo by this year but yeah patience will have to play a huge part on that visual novel cause my god yummy does so much art for fans and her comics lol
That’s a sick mindset lol, I’ll be honest I to want to just play it but I’ve heard that it’s gonna have interactive feeding games and all that extra fun stuff so I’m more than willing to wait lol
I mean to be fair this already happened. A year ago the demo was supposed to be out by a date that was set by her in January. And there is very little about information about the game in general even when being a patreon. So I can understand the confusion. Especially when February, and April of last year were the only mention of the game publicly, and just I think two more times on patreon outside of that last year which to my knowledge I think was a teaser image and a mention a larger announcement to come this year.
Oh true I completely forgot about that teaser, yeah I don’t think she ever said what happened public lol, I’ll just confirm that she changed her mind last minute due to it being very buggy and also she wanted to add more to the demo, it would of been nice if yummy stated that though, the only reason I know that is because she told me in DMS lol
