I concur. The base was handled expertly. The characters, even the nameless NPCs you interact with just felt like a legitimate ragtag band of freedom fighters. This is a group that can contend with any other group. The guy running the nutripaste. The guys in the cafeteria, the hangar crew, the squad up with the computers.
Nerds isn’t slap-dashing this game. This is a legitimate follow-up on Some Bullshit. I am loving it!
I try to play stuff that piques my interest as soon as possible. Same day where possible. But somehow Nerds always seems to release stuff on the day(s) I can’t play cause of various things. But nonetheless- I just finished what was available to play and wanted to write out my thoughts.
Playtime:
Around 6 hours 10 minutes.
Review and notes (spoilers):
It Came From Lantrum! - Wow just overall this was great to play through. Really felt like an extra mission in some bullshit but turned up to 11. Overall top notch choice in music and where to use it. Loved the characters and the dialogue. The moment I started the game and was met with the St*rfox n64 menu theme I knew I was in for a good time.
The return of Clara - Clara returns in a whole new adventure on an alien planet. And she’s great to see here. The adventures from some bullshit have definitely left their mark on her (among other things) as she seems more hungry than ever. Or is there some actual bio-engineering from the evil empire? Hmm, questions to ponder. But anyways, it’s great seeing Clara in an unknown environment where she is actually turned into a threat by her hunger towards these vegetables with their sugar based shields. Also the art and sprite work is top notch as always.
Alien world - Speaking of unknown environment. It’s great to see the balance between Clara and Tap Carotene in this story. Since the audience is used to Lantrum, if they played Some Bullshit, this entire alien setting is foreign to us. Which means we can relate a bit to what Clara is going through but it’s nice to see that she has a partner in Tap Carotene who is used to this alien world but not Clara or normal “human” culture. This also creates a lot of great scenarios where basic human biology, foods, or other basic things we are accustomed to are strange and foreign in this alien world. Though Clara being a hungry beast? Yeah no that’s just a Clara thing lol. Also I am curious to the “evil empress” the intro text was talking about.
Tap Carotene - I really like this carrot. He has that youthful rebel energy to him, but still has some wits to him. It’s interesting playing as him. I like the mutual bond between Clara and him. They both need each other as a method to a way. But yeah I like Tap Carotene a lot. He’s got spunk but he’s also not a complete veteran. Also loved the joke about Clara already seeing the signs of Tap opening random chests for “possible supplies”. It’s also funny to watch Tap, someone not used to Clara’s antics, be exposed to Clara’s full blown hunger.
The Resistance - I really liked how the whole resistance was built up in the story. It seems there will be future adventures surrounding possible rescuing Kurt. But besides that I liked all the characters. I liked Antoinette and her covert ops. She seemed interested in chocolate. Wonder if that will come up in the future. Brassie is a cute and insane doctor. Gander was cool as hell. And Jean is the mean and strict but seriously needed backbone of the resistance. I liked how all the heads of the resistance got their own theme music. Really helped add to their type of characters.
Overall Gameplay flow - Honestly I liked it. The first half of this first update(?) was quite nice. The basic infiltration and escape plan between Clara and Tap. Followed by the end with the events in the town with Clara getting her new outfit. Which is really well done btw. Still keeps the original character colors (and the red gloves, nice) while still being new and “spacey”. Then the second half with the fetch quest inside the rebel base was quite nice and easy to understand. It took me a bit to get all the pieces together but it was nice little puzzle about figuring out what to do in what order. I also appreciated the availability of the hint “container”. I didn’t end up using it so I can’t speak for the value of the hints, but I will stay I appreciated the availability of it. So yeah great time.
The tummy meter - I like this new addition of the tummy meter and numbers above enemies heads. It adds context to how much Clara can eat and full she already is. It’s nice seeing that little portrait in the top left as well that we can toggle at any time with “Q”. I like it.
Vore - I gotta be honest. Vore is usually a touchy subject for me and I sometimes don’t like it as much as just stuffing or weight gain. But with this I honestly have no issues with Clara eating a ton of evil veggie people. And I’m actually all for it. So, I think this hit the perfect balance of Vore and stuffing.
New characters new possibilities - I will admit as much as a part of me wants to see what some of the other characters from some bullshit are up to, I am really enjoying a mostly new full cast of characters. Having Clara in this scenario I think was a great choice as it scratches that itch for wanting to see old characters, but it’s also quite nice to see new characters and how they interaction with each other.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one! Like many others, did not expect another game from you guys, at least not so soon.
Had a blast playing this one, sprites and art are amazing, and the game itself is designed well, actual thought is put into it and the flow is nice.
Thank you for this! Looking forward to more Clara goodness now that she’s got a mission cut out for her in this alien place!
It’s great, ya keep the same noteworthy sense of humor, Clare sticks in character and her appetite keeps growing. Honestly I always felt bad for her since she always wanted to keep up with Emmie so lowkey I’m hoping this is an indirect sequel where she gains emmie like gluttony/belly capacity or close to it at least.
I mean you’re experienced, not much I can say, it’s great and in the theme of Some BS, I wish I had something to add besides some wishes. In the game so far it said the worst thing to ever happen to her was she was chubby once… that hurt, I was devastated as a still chubby guy, I was triggered, please remove it (JOKES) all that aside I know wg isn’t really your thing but as of now she doesn’t have a formerly evil demon god possessing her so maybe have her become the worst thing she ever experienced… chubby from eating all those nutritional veggies lmao. Besides that great game and glad you’re back and you sucked me back in just like the 1st time I played some BS
Uncertain if there are significant parallels between Tap and Pro, but I’m not really seeing them. Also, I like Tap better and though it’s not a comparison to Pro’s pun-based name appreciate both of them in Tap’s name. (awful sentence but not sure how to improve it, apologies.)
Also, personally honestly really like his interactions with Clara, I swear it seemed like she showed genuine concern for him and even if she’s the perfect weapon against the Empire, Tap looks like he’s actively treating her like an actual person even when she’s not present even after witnessing her eccentricities first-hand and going spare at her, which I think is nice and a stark contrast from the morally dead Brassie. (For the record, the intention is ‘it sees TO ME like a genuine budding friendship’. I am NOT shipping Clara with a sapient vegetable.)
Point is; Personally like Tap and actually think he’s a step up from Pro. I am a philistine.
Edit; I’m also quite fond of that capsicum, Gander.
I agree. Tap’s… interesting. He’s legitimately a neat work of art and that one face he keeps pulling is priceless and I think that sums him up quite nicely.
He’s a different kind of hero. I adore Pro. But I think I’m going to enjoy Tap plenty. He feels like the protagonist needed for a story like this one.
I like how Tap is significantly less put-together in his job than Pro and how he isn’t just the ace of aces respected by everyone like Pro was, it makes him a bit more distinct. Also, so far he is significantly saner. So far.
So, what do you felt when you saw people start sharing Clara content on this forum or when Clara won The votation Coincidently after you and Clinko have already started programming The game about Clara?
Honestly when I saw Clinko post this on their deviantart I audibly gasped and rushed here to download and play it, and it’s been an absolute joy so far. Such a huge chunk of game to play through for just only the first part, packed with lots of Clara action and signature Nerds/Clinko charm and humor and fantastic art. Thank you for this!
Ah, I figured the Clara enjoyers would get their feast and be happy. Maybe that would stop them from posting under every one of Clinko’s art pieces “Yes, but Clara?”.
I, for one, believe the want for Clara will be even stronger now. People will be coming off the new game to clinko’s twitter like emmie WHO? I need my carrots and Claras!
Was wondering when the game was gonna say, ‘‘This is all for this update’’ But it kept going and GOING. Omg I cannot wait and the shenanigans will happen
I would appreciate a Heidi game where it’s just Pro constantly competing with her mum in cooking, and they keep cooking more and more each time, and she has to eat everything. Especially more so when she’s about to pop soon
Okay, so I just got done playing it. While there are some grammatical errors that make you stop and think about what they are saying for a few seconds. There are no other bugs that I have yet to find. On another note… THAT FUCKING SHIT EATIN GRIN THAT LITTLE ASS CARROT HAS IS SO FUCKING HILARIOUSLY ANNOYING!!! I WANNA SMACK THAT SHIT RIGHT OFF HIS FACE!!! OR BETTER YET, SERVE HIS BOILED ASS UP WITH SOME BUTTER AND SALT TO CLARA. SURELY SHE’LL LOVE THAT!!!
Na, more like it fast forward to where Heidi is close to her due date and pro suddenly loses it when she fakes going into labor ( because of gas of course )
She’s the best! She’s my favorite character at any rate.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love everyone in Some Bullshit, it’s a great game, perfectly sculpted and full of whacky awesome characters. But Clara stands out among the crowd for me. I’m sincerely smitten with her character. That’s unlikely to change.
(If there was more Mona content, she might be able to compete with Clara for my heart some, but… nope, Clara for the win!)
Hello cool seeing more from the SB dev, read that the game is smaller in scope and having played the game for a bit I like it but I got a question. Are there any choices in this one? Just asking because I just got to the rebel base and non have popped up so far.
The game is only built for Windows, not Linux, but Itch.io can use Wine (a compatibility layer) to try to run it if you have Wine installed. I just tried to run it with Wine on my system and it seems to work fine (though it doesn’t run that well), so maybe it’s because you have an old version of Wine installed. I know the one in the Ubuntu repositories is pretty old for example. See here for how to update Wine to the latest version: Download - WineHQ Wiki.
The other option is to convert the Windows version to a Linux version yourself. The game will run better if you do this, but it’s slightly more work. I have a comment in the Some Bullshit thread on how to do that if you want to try it. You may have to update to a newer version of nw for it to run. I can help with that if you need it.
