It's What You Wanted

Here we are, a little early this year! I had a fun idea for the theme and ExtrudedSquared was cool enough to create some lovely renders to go with it.

A note for the judges; download the game if at all possible. The web posted version has a bug where the achievements don’t show up right away. In general, it is preferred for players (and judges!) to use the downloaded version. The web version is provided for convenience but slow loading of video files may cause video sequences to not play as originally designed.

It’s What You Wanted by PeachClamNine (itch.io)

You did it!

After years of decadent gluttony you are finally big enough to fill your studio apartment.

Now all that’s left is to bask in your success and enjoy being a room-filling blob.

It’s what you wanted, isn’t it?

Features:

  • A room sized person of indeterminate gender!

  • More than 6,000 words of nothing!

  • 3D Rendered Full Motion Video!

  • At least one unlockable achievement!

  • Unexpected command outcomes!

  • Unexpected existential dread!

  • Unexpectedly frustrating retro text-based gameplay!

–

Not a feature, but a horrible bug!

  • Due to unexpected development issues, achievements will not be visible on the title screen until you’ve saved the game at least once. Please view them from the in-game menu; they are meant to guide your progress!

I love this!

Shame I suck at text adventures

I’m old enough to have played them when it wasn’t retro, I sucked playing them then and I still struggle now. I really feel like I need more hints present to work out exactly what I can do in terms of entering commands.

Regardless, just wanted to say I enjoyed looking left and right

it might be nice to have more than 1 hint or a small list of commands

we got a funny guy over here

Theoretically I really like this. Love this perspective, and getting an ‘ah ha!’ moment when you figure out commands is fun. But I’m having trouble figuring out what the actual goal is, and only managed to find about 14 of the interactables by looking around. I did, however, find the burp, fart, and eat lamp commands, all of which are nice / hot inclusions

This is a pretty cool concept, and it’d really shine if the interaction was more in-depth. I’m totally stuck on finding all my stuff(only up to 18 and I’ve tried basically every object I can see or that the text mentions) and getting the ice cream, though.

I’m at 20/21 and missing 2 other achievements Find the phone and gain jam and I’ve run out of ideas to try. Fun little adventure but it’s gonna bug me that I can’t find the last bits.

A guide would be great

How about you get to see the ending?

I love the concept but holy heck, there was a reason I never even got past the first room in Zork and it proves itself once again while I play this one. Imma just wait until someone else beats it so I can experience the other bits of content. Great game otherwise though!

It’s not often that not being able to do anything is an enjoyable experience, but you’ve somehow managed to pull it off. Nice job.

Although… I couldn’t get all the achievements either. I think I got 7 or 8 of the achievements and 20/21 of the objects needed for Achievement #1. I still had fun discovering all kinds of useless commands, but I couldn’t quite find some of the ones that “mattered”.

So I cheated.

Yes, I had to go digging in the game files for the command list. I wish I could have found them on my own, but seriously, I spent HOURS trying everything I could think of and still came up short. Never let it be said that I didn’t give it a good try.

So first off, I discovered two commands that were misspelled, namely “look furnature” and “masterbate” (should be “look furniture” and “masturbate”). Thankfully, they’re not tied to any of the achievements, but I never would have found them otherwise.

As for filling out the achievement list, I’ll drop some hints here, so other people who are stuck can get at least partial satisfaction out of them, rather than just looking them up like I did. Achievements are numbered left to right and then top to bottom:

  1. Hint: Try paying special attention to the kitchen and the right side of the room when using the Look and Feel/Touch commands. Some objects you might have missed: pot/pan, pillow, table, fridge/refrigerator/freezer
  2. Hint: What was the name of your favorite flavor again? Answer: “eat monkey” (“eat chunky monkey” also works) I doubt I would have gotten this one.
  3. Hint: The fridge is empty, but what about the freezer?
  4. Hint: Try actually using the word “inventory” in a command.
  5. Hint: Try using something that’s NOT in your inventory. Answer: “use regrets”
  6. Hint: Don’t overthink it. Try the most straightforward thing you can think of. Answer: “find phone”
  7. Hint: It’s another one related to your phone.
  8. Hint: There’s got to be some way to use your computer…
  9. Hint: What does a room-filling blob spend most of their time doing?
  10. Hint: You may need to think in 3rd person when phrasing this command. Answer: “make bigger” (“make me bigger” also works) I actually tried “get bigger”, but that didn’t work. I really feel like it should have…

Personally, I felt like #2 and #10 were the most obtuse. And, of course, #1 is likely to cause trouble just because there are so many things you could end up overlooking.

Thanks for caring enough to look into the game to discover its deficiencies. I have some ideas to address this after judging, including a possible easy mode where nouns and verbs are highlighted.

The second achievement breaks convention by expecting you to type three words so maybe there’s something I can do there too… It’s a good unexpected result joke though so I don’t exactly want to remove it.

For complete beginners; the way to play these sorts of games (or at least this one) is to note down all the verbs and nouns and then try those.

For example, if “look room” says you can see a fridge, you can probably “look fridge”.

I really enjoyed this, it was a fun throw back to games i played in the 90’s

I unironically would enjoy a more fully fleshed out version of this. Like a scenario where our blob protagonist has to fend for herself because something happened. like a one room adventure game.

I’m gonna be honest, the third achievement is alluding me completely
I was able to get (MOST) of the others just fine (I had no clue pan was even an option) and the last one works in retrospect after the ice cream achievement, but I just have no clue about the third one

I did find the hint about ‘feeling’ for things, which helped out.

Just to be 100% though, me not being able to work out text commands takes nothing away from the excellence of your work!

It’s the more intuitive twin of #2, basically. Try a different name for the same object. (Or, to spell it out plainly: “eat cream”/“eat icecream”)

I will say that that’s one of the more confusing things about the achievements.Several of them come in pairs, but with one of the two achievements hidden. So if you get the non-hidden achievement first, you may stop trying to interact with the object before getting the hidden achievement.

Alright, I’m at a loss as to how to use the computer. I think it’s the last thing to do, aside from look at check every item…

Well, you can’t control the computer with your mind, so you’ll need some kind of input device, right? How might you get ahold of one?

Another hint: The keyboard is just barely out of reach, but it’s resting on top of the computer tower, which is in reach…

Yet another hint: Which part of your body is actually closest to the computer?

Answer: “kick computer”

Thanks… I was getting the clues by feeling the computer and keyboard… just couldn’t get it down.
Another command I didn’t think to try.
