Larger Folk - Work in Progress Fat / Weight Gain Mod For Caves of Qud

that is something i was thinking a bit about!!! i was thinking abt it more with the since-removed weight stage mutations before, but now it could work perhaps… i’m not sureeeee though, it depends if the limb inventory graphics are hardcoded into the game system or set based on the xml sheet with the limb data

also from now on updates for the mod will be available just by cloning the repo, since it’s easier than making a new release each time. a new release will be added for major versions that are totally tested from now on, which we’ll just have to wait and see when those happen

another thing is that this would be hidden if you’re wearing armour on that slot, so you wouldn’t be able to see it easily… but if it’s doable i suppose one might as well

Well, there are different limbs, if there’s a limb that can’t equip things, maybe you could use that limb ‘type’ and rename it? again I have no clue what’s actually possible or not possible.

Well yeah i could make it so you cant equip anything there but thats just, it doesnt feel fun to me to have it totally lock off your armour slots? I think that would be really annoying for ppl

oh that’s just the actual name of that creature lol, funny coincidence. i think it just has a chance to inflict bleed and does more damage or something

Does drinking sap or cider or whatnot contribute to calories and weight stage?

Also, getting fat should give an increase to your AV, Toughness/HP, Cold resistance(good for cold-blooded especially), give you more time before starving if it doesn’t already, but come with a debuff to quickness, move speed, and dodge. If not already the case, it would be nice if meals actually cooked with ingredients contribute to calories and gain. The mutation and body part system should be able to handle everything, however applied. It would be nice if there were perhaps higher tiers in the hunger system above sated to reflect this as well.

Also, is there currently a way to lose weight? I keep getting “stuck in you” constantly.

oh right i forgot, i meant to have ingredient using meals contribute to weight gain! i’ll have to consider more deeply how that should work. also yeah ive been thinking a bunch abt various gameplay effects of weight like av or cold resistance, i’ll have to start experimenting with what feels right

nothing but plain ol’ exercise, and special enemy attacks/effects are planned that affect weight upwards and downwards. for more general methods i’ve been considering stuff, like it could be good if getting sick makes you lose weight faster, or being in a really hot/cold environment

as for the stuck in you, yeah that’s the drawback of immobility, rather than being totally immobile you can still walk but trip/get exhausted every few steps, it’s something to be avoided generally unless you have teleportation (thinking of other stuff, maybe something like your quickness stat reduces the intensity of the mobility penalties the higher it is? so like if you have the tank treads cybernetic you can ambulate mostly normally while immobile)

not yet i don’t think, that feels like something that should happen right, huh… liquids work in a weird way i’m not sureeee i’ll be able to do anything with, but i’ll see what i can do

thank you!!! also, i added caloric content to “food” liquids now as you suggested.

Im not sure if it works with enemies/interactions that “force feed” liquids to the player like cider/wine soupy sludges, that might need some extra massaging

are these updated to the mod real time on the git or are you going to be posting versions?

what i’ve posted here is real time yeah, the git repository gets irregular but not infrequent updates. the git release page will only be updated for big perfectly stable changes, or once it’s some degree of “done”

since a weight gain injector has been added, i’ll probably add a weight loss injector too, for mitigating dangerous fattening. maybe it would be interesting to have it only slightly reduce weight, and its main effect is that it blocks fattening effects while it’s active? or maybe something else should do that

Both?
Make one that blocks fattening effects, a more combat oriented injector which reduces all weight gain by a large amount, and then you can have a different one for ‘emergency slimming’. Maybe it makes you more susceptible to fattening effects to disincentivize using it in combat?
