I do intend to have more ways of earning money than the bakery.
Bakery does scale with level. Pay is level divided by 2, multiplied by how many energy units used.
So max level, working the full time is 45 gold for the day. Although, higher weights will have a hard time getting there with full energy, so if you’re on the higher end of weight and want to use the bakery for making money, you should either spam Make Room potions, or eat yourself to immobility for the weight reset. There is an unlockable that makes this unnecessary, but I need to implement it yet.
getting to max level would take long enough for your weight to be on the higher side as well if you’re not careful, so you’ll have to decide if it’s worth the time and energy lowering your weight. i do like the balancing act this presents
New demo out. Main changes: Restaurant is working now, using ingredients enough times will now tell you what that ingredient does (10 times, can be reviewed in the journal), sprites are finished, 2 new size cgs, the Port Town is starting to be made, Fishing/Diving activity in the port town for getting sea based ingredients, Alchemy shop is open to purchase any ingredient in the game that can’t be found elsewhere. Save files will not be compatible.
It looks like the Ate at Bakery Today switch has a habit of getting stuck on rather than turning off every day like it’s supposed to, meaning you can’t revisit the bakery after it’s switched on. Also, does the fetishizer potion actually do anything at the moment or is that still being worked on? I haven’t really noticed it taking any effect even after being used twice.
@KuarterBound
at the moment, the only way to make money is to work at the bakery. If you need money, head straight there when you wake up.
@storymaker When you try to go to the bakery and it’s getting stuck, how much energy do you have? The place closes after the early morning (when you have, at any point in the day, gone below 7 energy). Fetishizer does work, but it’s effects are a bit more subtle (it changes flavor dialogue for the most part, but there is a hidden practical use for it if you took 5 doses in the restaurant. Also need to be 550 mass). For the potion to have any effect at all, you need to take it at least twice. I didn’t want to make the effect apply after only one dose, since in order to win the game, you will need to make every potion type at least once.
nice, new update. getting multiple mackerel on each successful fish has been very useful, though it doesn’t seem to give much algae (though I might’ve just been unlucky). mana gain from the restaurant might be bugged, since it’s giving half as much as it says it does (while it says it gives 2/4/7 mana, it’s only giving 1/2/3. fat and hunger changes seem to be correct)
So I’ve decided go over your new numbers and try out some math to try to figure out the minimum number of ingredients needed to make every single potion given the 1-7 Potency times 1-7 Latency table (Because I have a compulsive need to break apart games and toys to see how they work) and I think I’ve got it down to 12.
The required ingredients are:
1 P(otency) 1 L(atency),
1 P 6 L,
2 P 2 L,
2 P 6 L,
2 P 7 L,
3 P 5 L,
5 P 3 L,
6 P 1 L,
6 P 2 L,
6 P 6 L,
7 P 2 L,
and 7 P 7 L
It is possible there might be a way to make all of the potions with even fewer ingredients if you doubled up 1 or 2 of them but this is the lowest I could come up with in a short time.
Main changes: All ingredients are in the game. Remaining 2 potions have effects now. More new artwork, particularly the transformation potions and new expressions. New locations, the Woods, Volcano Mansion, and Mines, Work is available at the restaurant and mine. Ability to use the same ingredient twice per potion once you reach level 25. Failsafes for the random chance ingredient properties added, “Insta-Brew” (directly choose potency and latency. very expensive and rare) and Bartholomew’s ability to reroll all ingredient values.
Unsure if this is a bug or not - perfect glutton’s effect still says ‘you don’t know anything about this potion’ once you make it.
Edit edit edit: nvm this is the game-end potion my bad.
Also: the switch for Bart’s reward for fattening the alchemist doesnt seem to flip, so he is just giving me an insta-brew everytime I talk to him.
Edit edit: she also just disappears completely.
Using the joiplay cheat to flip it and he stopped mentioning it. The restaurant girl is also maxed out, but he isn’t mentioning her at all
So far, I’ve loved this submission. It reminds me of other similar RPG maker games like the Feeder Fantasy mod, which is a personal favourite. This kind of interesting mechanics and gimmicks, plus the lovely art style, is exactly what I like to see in gain jams, and I am really eager to play the final version. Best of luck!
Softlock involved with the blueberry potion when you do not have the portal unlocked yet and choose Maya as your juicer since you run out of energy to climb up the stairs. Also after unlocking the Blueberry Potion and Troll’s Blood they are still labeled as unknown in the spell book despite being able to read it’s description if clicked.
@Randomtroll433 You actually aren’t softlocked unless you don’t have the return crystal in your inventory. Check your key items and see if you have it. If you do, it returns you to your room, which will let you get the elevator portals
@Megaton.Melon Fixed this, but to fix it on the player’s end until the next update, have her interact with the wine rack or any other object that normally brings up her picture.
@jeffskeep Actually, that is a bug and I’m really glad you caught that one, since to beat the game you will need to make that potion likely again once all the others have been made at least once. I fixed the issue of him giving insta-brew infinitely and he mentions the restaurant patron now too.
There is a minor bug related to Troll’s Blood: once it has been created the recipe book still lists it as “?”, however its description is readable when selected.
Hoping to have the game able to be beaten tonight.
Since I’m not touching the alchemy system anymore, the next update will be removing the debug ingredient chest (now I need reports of how the game plays in terms of the economy) if any playtesters could focus on the alchemy system while the chest is still there, that’d be very much appreciated.
There are a couple potions that still need testing though, so you’ll still have the debug ingredient tool in the key items bag, it’s just a little harder to use than insta-brew since it effectively acts like 2 normal ingredients and needs magic treatment
the stats for the troll blood potion in the book is incorrect. it’s currently listed as “4 potency, 5 latency/5 potency, 5 latency”, but it should be “4 potency, 5 latency/5 potency, 4 latency” (a 5:5 is just a strong make room potion). there’s also a minor typo in the forest sign (“forrest” entrance)
New update is out. The game is now able to be beaten, and the intro is finally in place, so you can all get the sweet context the other demos have been missing.
Been having a ton of fun with this one! One minor bug from the most recent build though; the Blind Binge potion ends up resetting your fat instead of adding it to your current total, which I suppose makes it the strongest weight loss potion in the game but I’m assuming that’s not intended lol. Keep up the great work! I’m waiting in anticipation to see Pathogenic and Feeder Frenzy get implemented!
