Some Bullshit - Stuffing Focused RPG Maker Game

@Nerds All of the files are present, some of them just don’t load.
I’ve also found another one.

And another one soon afterward.

Yet another unloaded file.

Hmmm…
If extracting another copy of the game and transferring over your saves from there doesn’t work, try going through the audio folder and replace every space there with %20.
I think for whatever reason, your game isn’t reading the spaces in the filenames.

How do I replace space?

Right-click the file, click “Rename”, then just delete the space and put %20 there.

Yo, if Some Bullshit is bog-standard, then you’re at least pushing it to its limits with quality.

I also have to say that you use the RPG Maker engine to a good extent. While the gameplay itself might seem basic but still done fun (god, if anything, I remember I do also hate random encounters all the time in games, when its really not justified), it’s the combination of writing, presentation, humor, the characters especially and also the artwork itself (shoutout to @clinko_clinko for the art) that makes the game stand out.

One could make a mechanicly more impressive game, but it could also just been your “Generic RPG Maker Game, that just feels hollow and empty”. This game definitely is not generic and hollow - it’s unique in a absolutely amazing way and making that does, infact, require real skill. I also like that you “stop-and-think” as I see with the post, questioning yourself if you have made things well, simply a good trait to have imo.

Also I don’t mind if the game actually is “slapped” together, that sort of slight randomness actually fits the game well, fits the overall theme. (Not sure if I missed the actual gist of that or not)

Anyhow that’s enough of my rambling and perhaps convoluted way to speak … I am just glad I have found this excellent game and I do wish everyone, and especially you, here a nice day and keep up the amazing work !

Yeah, the “slapped together” aspect has made it a game where you can see the steady improvement of skill behind it.

At first it was absolutely basic “my dick is in the pilot seat right now so we’ll play it” RPG maker fair and then it just grows on you, the gameplay starts kicking up a notch or two as more was learned and the maps get bigger, with far more to do, NPCs become actual characters, and you’re already endeared to the main characters before another is added who adds a whole new dynamic. Art appears, lore’s explored, combat becomes more detailed, memes spill out like Clara in a diving suit, and then you hit the end of the game and you’re anticipating the next update for a humble fetish game more than you are for other games.

But seriously, the memery is at a level where Italian chefs start kissing the tips of their fingers. I was chuckling as soon as they made mention of the monster in the ski resort. I had the same anticipation for seeing that goddamn yeti as I do whenever the prospect rises for Emmie to devour another monster.

Did you export the game from the zip? I am not sure why you are the only person to have had this issue. It’s not really something I know how to control since from my side everything is set up correctly.

And to everyone else, thank you for the words again. Though please, when I say my game is very standard, I mean it! I am not trying to fish for compliments here. The comment “At first it was absolutely basic “my dick is in the pilot seat right now so we’ll play it” RPG maker”, is very right. The start of the game is about as barebones as it can be.

I can’t disagree with the notion that it is bogstandard, there are plenty of things you can do, little things, even, that can greatly help shake that feeling off (for example, pushing the menus so that Pro’s name actually fits in the box…). Honestly, you can kind of say the whole game is barebones (ironic, given the fetish), and nowhere near the limits of the engine or even your own skill. You really could be doing so much more, and it’s not even that particularly hard to.

But I do think that for what its worth, it does give me a good amount of nostalgia to play this stuff. From all the music rips, the basic combat with interesting skills and effects, the weird minigame breaks, it does feel like a passion project that’s just isn’t around anymore. Like a Newgrounds flash game, a shareware floppy game you download from a BBS site, a racing game’s level editor.
Admittedly, the backhandness of that compliment is completely intended and is honestly more a personal appeal than actual praise. But if the goal was to illicit such feelings, then two thumbs-up my man! If not, then you are doing a lot right anyway!

I feel like a stronger, more focused, bigger project is in here, just sort of buried under your apprehensions and insecurities, to put it bluntly. I think you can keep all the charm you’ve built up in a game that is more fun and satisfying to play. Though I think the first step towards that goal is to stop selling yourself short. If you feel like the beginning is barebones (and yeah, kinda is), go back and change it. Don’t just sit there, feelin’ like this is the best you can do!

I think I speak for everyone when I say that we want this to succeed. I and many others here believe in this project. And while I bet a good deal of us appreciate the humility, it’s starting to come across as self-flagellating, man…

TL;DR: Just take the compliments. You have skill, flaunt it, my man.

Alright so first things first i wanted to say that i’ve been enjoying this game a heck ton both fighting and art wise so huge kudos to that but my main reason for this post was to say that it is indeed possible to beat Esse Ter Vigilia’s first encounter without cheating, although it would take an eternity depending on how much health she really has.

First possible way to beat her without too much trouble would be to grind beforehand in the forest behind the first goblin brewery since the random encounter for the sneaky bois is never really disabled but it’s still possible to survive her onslaught without any grinding.

Let’s focus on the fight itself, Pro is permanently stunned so we can skip anything regarding him in the fight other than being a weak early meat-shield for the fight, so we’re only gonna talk about Clara, at this point of the game on average she should be about level 15-16 and make sure to have her equip optimal gear and that she learns the sugar rush skill (if i remember correctly it was from the bakery sidequest…?); throughout the whole fight you want to make sure that Clara has sugar rush active and that Esse is inflicted with double accuse, the sugar rush skill lasts for 4 turns after being used and accuse lasts for 5 turns after being used, optimally you would want to keep track of both turn counts but even just taking a turn to both use sugar rush and re-apply accuse turns in a single turn works just fine; so for the first part of the fight Esse will attack really hard with 2 attacks that deal about 70% of Clara’s health even with double accuse active, thankfully there’s a couple of free turns in between so i suggest while Pro is alive to accumulate as many power points as possible and keeping Clara very healthy using her first aid-kit ability, especially between Esse’s strongest attacks; once you’re past both strong attacks you want to get in a cycle where Clara with sugar rush active re-activates it and keeps the double accuse debuffs going on the same turn, once you did that you have 3 double action turns to normal attack or first aid-kit yourself, make sure you have 15 power points after the 3rd turn ends because you want to re-apply both sugar rush and accuse, and at that point the cycle continues; with this strat i was able to survive for about 200 turns? and still keep pushing, from what i’ve noticed the only real way to lose with this strat is to both get really low rolls on the first aid-kit and for Esse to get really high rolls for several turns in a row.

also if anybody knows how much health she has that’d be great to know, i wanna say i hit her for about 50000+ damage at this point? mostly counting critical hits that deal around 1600 each

Just going to give you a heads up, if you beat her, I game over you. She also has 100,000 health if you really want to know!

I remember I attempted to do that as well and had a similar tragedy [which I found by accident]. I eventually called it quits since I figured it was going to take too long and wanted to advance the story.

Still. It would be neat to see a sort of tournament in which you get tested for your skills by fighting some of the previous bosses along with new ones. And you get rewarded at the end.

damn i’ve must of gave up really close to the end then, oh well

How do I get the different event versions? I used the ticket again and got the same crewmate party.

if you’re talkin about the inn events in Nordenhaven they are randomized every time you use the ticket. might have to give it a couple tries if you are repeating, but it should change.

Alright… I’ll keep trying then.

How’s development going for you? I’m probably not the only one who wants to know how your personally doing Nerds.

Oh things are fine. Still targeting that 2/26 release for that 1 year anniversary update. Most of the main story is done, I’m balancing fights and building out the last cutscene. Probably have a replay to add as well. Lastly, when that is all complete I need to finish out the big sidequest that will be added this chapter.

I have ideas for another big three sidequests, but they require a lot of art assets and time, so I will push those for a future update similar to how I delayed the party side quest. Still tons of content in this update though, testing shows 1-2 hours even if you know what you are doing.
