So I prestiged, but now I can no longer upgrade my suit. The suit upgrade station only gives me the “destroy building” option.
Prestige is neat, conflicted on whether or not the benefits feel worth it so far, losing all your stuff and suit upgrades makes a lot of sense, but losing all the building upgrades feels a little weak? At the very least the in-game excuse seems silly, maybe it would make more sense the machines needed new research because you’re now too big for their controls or something.
Extra crystal spot plus slightly larger map is very much welcome, I slipped up and lost one side so trying to get my second crystal location back was a good motivator.
I also quite like the portraits now that they’re here, so emotive!
I feel like sub-1 hour is possible if I didn’t keep misjudging how much power I needed to build/upgrade stuff and ending up either giving up halfway through or stubbornly holding the up key with 0 power.
The new facial expressions are great, and the bits of new dialogue here and there are wonderful! The starry background in the opening menu is a nice touch too. I was slightly disappointed to see that prestiging didn’t add any new weight stages or dialogue, but maybe in a future update. This game looks amazing so far and I can’t wait to see the ending(s)!
EDIT: Oh, and the ‘latest version’ link in the master post still seems to be 0.6.1.
Great game! Thanks for making it and continuing to update it with new stuff. It’s fun and the art is good, too.
This is a small thing, but it seems like Window Mode in the options is mirrored in 7.4: “ON” makes it fullscreen and “OFF” makes it windowed.
Just finished the latest update with max capacity and i gotta say i really like everything about the new update! The face expressions, sounds and everything is awesome can’t wait to see more!
Semi-casual run got me below an hour for max-size prestige completion. The one extra space to the right of the rightmost crystal deposit means the defenses can now be made airtight on both sides, which is nice. Having crystal spots is also kind of a big deal, cutting ~5-and-a-half minutes of wait from my speedrun strat, and its kinda necessary when just using the teleporter at max size on the prestige round takes ~5930 crystals all on its own. Significantly more than the combined cost of reaching the prestige round with this strat (~3500)!
Some other things i’ve noticed while doing some science…
- The most efficient energy setup still seems to be tier-1 reactors next to eachother. T2-3 reactors give a bit more energy but also take up another floor slot, and since crystals are still the primary bottleneck its not worth burning 1300 of them (and ~8000 energy total) to upgrade the rightmost reactor of a block to T3.
- You can save (small amounts of) energy, and not overshoot a tile via momentum, by using the build/destroy menu prompt as an instant brake.
- A minor thing, but i appreciate that there’s a portrait change if you manage to make it all the way to max size before triggering the at-capacity dialog, which i believe has no other possible dialogs it can trigger outside of the neutral Sen’s-Basics one.
Buggy things:
- If you happen to be standing next to Sen when an automatic dialog prompt happens (from size, first slime, or upgrade center), the act of trying to finish the conversation will immediately have you bring up Sen’s basic question prompts.
- Maxing out something at the suit upgrade center seems to prevent that option from reappearing on the prestige round until you save, exit the game, and reload the save.
- Relatedly, it seems that going to main menu in the middle of the prestige round and starting a new game in the middle of a run keeps your prestige status, as well as the disappearance of the upgrade items & the current relative strength of slimes. Even if you do unlock Prestiging again (which is locked to relative size, not energy capacity) it does nothing extra.
Just a heads up, the “latest” link in the top post is still linking to 0.6.1
Wasn’t even playing for very long before like 20 huge slimes came and destroyed everything
Think the difficulty needs tweaking a bit
loving the update so far! quick question tho, does having more energy production over all on the planet increase your passive energy production? the little bit of energy you generate even when not standing by anything? or you can only suck energy out of whats closest to you?
Build a turret and a wall to each side early on. Don’t take much energy to build em.
@Chubberdy Yeah I just tested it again. If you max out all the upgrades at the suit station, prestiging locks you out of re-acquiring those upgrades on the prestige run.
i like the mention of immobility, do you think you’ll add a sprite for it? I would assume it would just be when you reach your maximum weight but still letting you discharge it to get back mobility.
0.7.4, right? I experienced that one too. A quick workaround is saving the game and loading it again, don’t even need to close it. The issue with that one is that you lose all your crystals.
Really liking this game and I can’t wait to see further updates! (Also I might try my hand at modding this if I can ever figure out how)
I decided to try my hand with editing the sprites but I ran into two issues. Number one is that, despite initial appearances, the pixels are not even. I went into the project expecting it to be a simple 3x3 format and all I needed to do was shift it down to a 1x1…except that didn’t work. Why? Well sometimes there would be 2x3 and 3x2 ‘pixels’ sprinkled in with the 3x3 ones. Thankfully I managed to get those ironed out and got a sprite that I could work with. Then when I wanted to work on more gradient colors, turns out there wasn’t any real method to do it…so I just said screw it and averaged the RGB values ([Value 1 + Value 2]/2 = gradient) to get the gradient colors. After all that what did I get? Take a look
Smoll editing size (1x1 pixels)
Sided up to the game (3x3 pixels)
BIG VERSION (6x6 pixels; probably not like the big sprite in game)
TL;DR, if you want to try making SpaceThumper sprites like I did, pay attention to the pixels and be ready to do some math
That’s weird, pretty much all the regular sprites should be at 1x1, with most of the ui scaled up to 2x2. At least that’s what I put them in at. Maybe GMS2 scaled them weird, but if you’re extracting directly from the game files I don’t think that should happen…
I haven’t been able to get into the game files (can’t find a way to uncompile WIN and EXE files), so I had to get them from screenshots instead which has its fair share of jankiness even with the zone marker aside. If I could get access to the sprite sheets that would be splendid.
Probably should have mentioned I had to use screenshots in the post about modifying the sprites
Still have been unable to find a way to uncompile the game files even after more attempts, help would be appreciated (not the most tech-literate when it comes to modding)
I know there’s a way to extract assets, not sure if they work for the current version of gamemaker. (Also I forget which of the like 7 decompilers I downloaded I actually used or how any of them work) I will say that after I do the full release of the game I’ll be releasing pretty much all the assets that I made for anyone to use, as well as the base Sprite sheets. (Though there have been slight corrections to those made in spacethumper that didn’t make it back to the main base files)
