Welp, I hope at least someone’s insane enough to undertake the monumental task of a FU compatibility patch, if the new version of BF does end up being incompatible. I’m well aware that under the hood, FU is a complete disaster. But a lot of people use it anyway because the vanilla game is so starved of content depth that it’s incredibly boring past the first few hours, to the point that without it, you need hundreds of additional mods (many of which overlap with FU’s content pool) just to make the game worthwhile to play.
Won’t lie, though, I really wish it wasn’t the only complete overhaul mod available.

I’ll honestly just add a section to the first page when it gets overhauled to account for the new update dedicated just for mods to get over FU. It feels like a beginners trap what with it being the only overhaul mod. When you can get a much better experience without it.

I’d say that’s a matter of personal preference, having tried many other mods in conjunction with each other over the years and never quite having anything that lives up to FU without having significant overlap with things that are already part of FU.

Not sure it is just a preference thing considering FU’s bar of quality. You’d be surprised just how much you can isolate each part of FU to find a replacement. Especially since it’s less of an overhaul and mod of a ham fisted collection of stolen mods.

Absolutely sounds like a preference thing to me, it’s hard to objectivize quality. “What one person considers trash may be quality to another.”
Yes, you can isolate several components of FU, but with just how much overlap there tends to be when I assemble modpacks without Frackin Universe (around 80%) I figure I should just go all the way.
Also, Ham-fisted? Sure, I’ll give you that. It’s a slapped-together collection of various different smaller mods. But I’m not sure I can call it “stolen”; it’s all credited and used with permission, as far as I can tell.
Oh no it absolutely is stolen. Not just mods but other various assets. A cycle that has been repeated many times throughout the years of FU’s existence. Where Sayter will bemoan when the mod authors call him out for the theft.
And generally the overlap is better to have in a bundle rather then with FU. Since while FU does tweak them a bunch to match its vision. Its vision is very player unfriendly. The mods respect for player time and difficulty is incredibly questionable to put it lightly.

I’ll investigate these claims further. I’m not the kind of person to jump to conclusions based on pure hear-say. If I find it to be true, I’ll compile my own evidence and let my player group know.
What players seek can vary drastically from person to person, and for me I find FU’s “vision” more to my liking than either vanilla progression or using the component mods individually, provided I can get them to not crash the game on launch when used independently.
For a mod author in the community to ask. Silver, the creator of Betabound and a few others, has plenty of experience with Sayter and FU. Such as having her swimming mod stolen, and is very good at accounting for what mods come from where.
And assets are kind of all over the place in where they come from or if they’re original or not. The Gasbag enemy for example, is a modified Core sprite from Cave Story. Though pulling indie spritework is also common. Such as using a Webber spritesheet made by a fan of the character Webber from Don’t Starved without any real modifications.

as someone who has FU installed, i think i made my game a bit… uh… im not sure…
FU is dumb and I’m not going to code around it. It breaks/changes/overwrites so many internal things for no god damn reason that I’d have to spend half my time just patching around Sayter’s bullshit.
I’d rather spend that time coding the actual mod features and patching things for mods that actually try to maintain some semblance of compatibility.

It’s almost sad with how FU ended up. I mean, it’s the biggest overhaul out there by a mile, but it’s only so big because of all the uh… “not so good” things about it.
I dunno, I guess I just like to look at FU sometimes, and think about what it could’ve been. But enough of me going off topic here.

Hey, I’m hoping this mod is actually working? I’ve recently been having an issue; open the tab, hit enable, get the little sound, but no “status” for the size and all other bits don’t operate. Close tab, open tab, it’s disabled itself.
I’m hoping it’s just an outdated Quickbar Mini issue? Or something? And as a note, a lot of my mods come from the Steam Workshop, so I have partial experience with non-Steam mods… so far.

Need more information then that. Though common things that cause this tend to be either. SSVM, Joiliar’s Popping Mod, and rarely sometimes Modfatties.
