Starpounds-Installation

Installation

Installation is the same as any other Starbound mod. Simply extract the .pak files from the mod archive directly into your /Starbound/mods folder. Do not put the entire ZIP file into the mods folder.

The /mods directory should look like the following:

mods_go_here
StardustLite.pak
Starpounds.pak
Starpounds-ExtendedRaces.pak
Starpounds-Throgverse.pak
...

If you have QuickBarMini or Stardust Core installed either within your mods folder or on the steam workshop. Remove them so they do not conflict with StardustLite which is essential.

Starpounds-Starting

Accessing

Once installed, any character will automatically have starpounds turned on. Though only races supported will really benefit from it. You can use the quickbar from stardustlite to access a menu where you can access the skill tree, as well as toggle any options you wish to change.

To level up skills though, you’ll have to craft an Infusion Table. As well as eat a bunch of food in order to gain any experience. A special hub is also available from your ships teleporter that’ll take you to various shops where you can purchase food, furniture, weapons, and lore.

Starpounds-FAQ

FAQ

How do I enable the mod?

Assuming you’ve installed Stardust Core Lite correctly (Bundled in the mod archive, but you can also download it from the either the Workshop or GitHub), you should have a menu icon to access the QuickBar in the right sidebar (☰). Click the StarPounds button to bring up the mod’s quick menu, and click the green button at the bottom to toggle the mod.

How do I unlock skills?

You can unlock skills at an Infusion Table using Experience.

You can also access the skill menu from the QuickBar at any time, however you won’t be able to unlock skills ones without an Infusion Table.

How do I get Experience?

Experience is gained by eating. The amount gained is directly correlated to how much food an item provides, multiplied by its rarity:

Rarity Multiplier
Common 1x
Uncommon 1.25x
Rare 1.5x
Legendary 1.75x
Essential 2x

Your progress to the next level can be seen in the Skills menu. Each additional level takes more Experience than the last, so it’s recommended you spend your levels instead of accumulating large amounts.

How do I get an Infusion Table?

You can craft an Infusion Table at the Inventor’s Table.

How do I get Accessories?

Accessories are found as random loot, and themed accessories have a higher chance to spawn in some of the mod’s dungeons. You can also purchase jewellery boxes from random Throg merchants you encounter.

Can I use Big Fatties with Starpounds?

Big Fatties is the predecessor of Starpounds, and has undergone many changes such as an entire rewrite of the code. To summarize, it is the outdated version of Starpounds and cannot be used together.

Can I use Big Fatties addons with Starpounds?

Any unofficial addons made for Big Fatties will not work correctly with Starpounds.

The Quickbar for Starpounds doesn’t do anything when I click on it.

You have either Quickbar Mini, Stardust Core, Community Framework, or any other potential Quickbar alternative that is not Stardust Lite. Any of these will conflict with Stardust Lite, and Starpounds depends on the Metagui that Stardust Lite has over other Quickbar mods.

How do I fill the Feeding Tube?

Drop an item of liquid, not pouring liquid into the world but the item in your inventory, in front of the Feeding Tube. Either by dragging it out of your inventory or using the Drop Item key while holding it. Usually the [Q] button by default. If the dropped item is not in front of the Feeding Tube it may not be picked up.

How do I get to the Hog Diner?

The Hog Diner will be available to warp to from your ships teleporter.

Clothing won’t grow with size

Make sure clothing is put into the cosmetic armor slots of your ui, the place where the fat armors show up. If it doesn’t stick in, that means that piece of clothing is currently not supported for weight gain.

How do I vore?

Once you unlock a vore skill, you can either use the hotkey for it if you have either OpenStarbound or StarExtensions installed. Or click on the mouth button that shows up in any vore skill tree to get the vore tool.

Food doesn’t give xp or cause weight gain

Do prevent issues with mods overwriting the food lua, or not having to patch every modded food item. A script is applied to all food items whenever it’s clicked on. This means the script will not run if you eat food that pops up in your hotbar that you didn’t click.

What species are supported by Extended Races?

Currently, the following species are supported:

Mod Recommendations

OpenStarbound

For anyone new to Starbound, or is not up to date with the modding scene currently. I first and foremost recommend the great fork OpenStarbound.
You are still required to own Starbound, as it does not include assets. But in short among many various improvements, it greatly fixes the optimization issues base Starbound has. Alongside some features Starpounds takes advantage of that’s not possible without, such as custom keybinds for certain actions.

Recommended List

Outside of that I have a general list of mods I personally think are of high quality worth checking out here. Including some of my non-starpounds related mods for this game.

To Avoid

And lastly, I make two strong recommendations for mods to avoid at all costs. It’s up to you to still use them if you wish, but they’re plagued with their own issues that I consider a blemish on the modding scene of this game.

The first being Frackin Universe. A mod comprised of stolen content with its own history of bullying mods and other issues in regards to its balancing, pacing, and the creator themself.
And secondly being Galaxy in Conflict. A mod so troubled in its development that the entire team split up from how toxic they were, and it bleeds into the rather right wing leaning views of the mod itself to its core in both balancing and unoriginality.

Are you the original creator of the mod?

Yes, my title Dispatch shows up in any version of my mod as the author when looking at the mod list in game.

Oh. What’s up with the new less fat models then?

Part of an update. I made an official smaller plush pear-like heavy body type in the vein of the person who made the chubby addon.

Nice! Well I already have the older mod installed along with the other add-on mod, so it might not be a good idea to remove the older mod. Any other changes since your last version?

Moved the bodies and badges to a new object, the weightscale to make things a bit more organized. Balance changes to the defense provided by the badges. New statuses for crew mates that relate to the mod. A protectorate set and cosmic bandit set for the new chubster body. A few beds to suit the chubster and fatty body. Just a few though. And a fat floran statue and fat avian altar decoration.

Cool. But what do the new statuses do?

In general, nothing. It’s just what the method for prompts that crew members for your ship have is called. The thoughts they’ll have overtime. So there’s some flavorful stuff added to what can appear.

Oh. Is it safe to get the new mod if you’ve already used the old one?

It should be, though of course the addon would have to be removed. If you take the steps to simply delete what the addon added and then update the mod, it should be fine. And of course by deleting them, I mean going in game, loading your character and moving the armor pieces to the trash to despawn them.

Oh. Okay, that’s cool. I think I should do a backup too by the way. Thanks for the mod. Do you think I should keep my back-up archival version of the mod up on this forum?

Don’t see any harm in it sticking around, just might be good to post for anyone checking up on it for updates to point out I’m back with an updated version.

Okay. So what did you like about making the mod?

That might be a bit hard to pin down. It started out as something personal as I began looking into the game to make something for my floran to look a bit fatter. That eventually evolved into discovering that the frames for the body and armors are incredibly wide. Which lead me to experimenting to how fat I could make a floran. That turned into sharing the mod and expanding it overtime to include the other races and adding clothing and more up to this point. I’m not fast at this, nor do I always have the drive to work on it, it’s just fun to do on occasion to expand and find something more to enjoy about starbound since I want to like the game more than I actually do.

Nice to see you had fun making the mod. Is there going to be an in-between fatness level between the original blobby model and the new and much smaller chubby model?

Possibly? If I do make an inbetween it’ll probably take a long time after I expand some clothing options for the other two body types. Eventually.

Okay. I have to remake my model for my mod that adds a skunk race to the game then, because the shape is noticeably different. I’m not sure if I want to do it right now.

Also, I like how you actually updated the mod. I thought you might never return and post again on this forum. Nice to see you’re still here.

Yeah like I said, I’m just slow. If I ever want to stop working on the mod I’d announce it.
