Thicker Treat: A WG Dating Sim (v.0.4.5 with Sakura's new scenes now out for Patreons, 0.2.2 is public)

Just in case it’s unintended: that link points to the mediafire host for Alpha 0.1 when clicked.

Thanks! Yeah, I thought it would update automatically. The hyperlink should work now.

Discovered a bug in the most recent version. After meeting Nessa in Georgina’s path, the scene where she gives you a key is the only ‘Talk’ option that plays.

I have the same problem

@kul15 @Jegar Thanks for letting me know about this. If you download the link again, you should get a new version with this issue sorted out. (Save files should also work fine).

Alright! Whenever I come across a game I really like, I try to provide some good, actionable feedback. This game shows some great promise, and I loved what I saw in this update. As such, I’ll provide as much feedback as I found in my play through

First, the overarching things to work on:

  • The goal weight and diet is confusing. The goal weight fluctuates wildly without any real idea what is causing it, as does going on or off a diet. I don’t mind the idea at all, but it needs to be communicated and executed better to really hit home. Especially since the goal weight got to some really crazy numbers (i.e. her current goal weight in my game is 13 pounds)
  • Some conversation being repetitive is absolutely inevitable, and especially early in development when there is less to do that doesn’t surprise me or concern me at all. That said, it was weird to have a question about the business decision asked multiple times. Certain things will come up naturally again and again (i.e. “Are you sure I haven’t gained too much weight?”). However, I would expect a question like that to be a once and done type of thing.

A couple of nitpicky pieces:

  • There are a few scenes where the dialogue jumps person to person but the name on the screen does not. The opening scene with Delilah was the most obvious one.
  • There were a couple of spelling/grammatical mistakes, though the only one I remember standing out was using “brake” instead of “break”.
  • There are a few times during conversation with Georgina at Chez that the conversation seems to break off in unnatural places (so I assume it is unintended). The most obvious one was when Georgina says “I used to” and the rest of the dialogue just is not on the screen. There were also a couple of times in the second weight stage when I chose the “Talk” option and it didn’t choose a conversation, just went to the next scene.
  • In the 2nd weight stage, even though I have the keys I got asked about the keys again and then couldn’t go to Chez except during the original hours.
  • In the 2nd weight stage, there are a couple of times when the time of day on the main menu seems to be slow to update at times (i.e. still says 12 PM even after spending the 12 PM time slot working)

And finally, the highlights:

  • The renders are extremely high quality. They are engaging and immersive, and I never once got thrown for a loop thinking something looked unnatural.
  • The one-off scenes were fantastic. They added to the characters in a meaningful way while also providing great renders and fun scenes.
  • Navigation in the world is extremely smooth. It was easy to know how much money I have, what time of day it was, where I can go, and when. And the way you did it was way more immersive that just clicking a choice in a list. Bravo on this, you very rarely see it done so well.
  • The writing was both engaging and polished, so I always enjoyed what I was reading and felt like I was truly in the world.

All in all, this was fantastic. We are in very early development, but this has such incredibly high potential.

Great update, story is smooth and gives player feeling of progress. I can see a lot of space to build new chapters and options to choose from (especialy more options in phone). Georgina interactons are phenomenal and I cant wait to see whats next. Also Patrizia and Lola are my new favorites characters

About bugs:

  • I encountered a problem when player wants to go to work on weekends.

  • Goal weight is fun but confusing. More info in that space would be great.

At the end I just wanted to say it was good choise to start being your patreon. Great job and keep working on this project. Looking forward to the next updates!

I can’t download the free demo, it keeps asking to be a member to continue reading :<

Thanks @jcc309 ! I appreciate the detailed feedback. It is always nice to hear what worked for players and what didn’t, and it allows me to tweak things to improve gameplay for future versions

In short, I agree with your comments and suggestions. To say a bit more:

  • Yes. To be blunt, the code for weight-gain-prompted dialogue, according how comfortable/hesitant characters are, is right now the game’s Achille’s heel. It should be more balanced, rather than spiralling on one direction.
  • Thanks for pointing out the grammar errors and the missnamed speakers. Knowing where in the game these things makes them easier to fix.
  • I had noticed the date freezing as well during play testing, but I thought I had gotten to the root of it. Clearly that’s not the case. I’m going to add that and the issue with the keys (which others have mentioned too) to this week’s bugfixes.

Finally: it’s great to hear that the interface is easy to navigate and that the writing is slowly weaving the world. :v:

Thanks @dzema123 ! I’m taking note of the bugs.

Also, on the phone: Your intuition is right. The empty space is planned for Contacts (so you can ask the girls out to other places) and Gallery (which is self explanatory). For the July build, I’m hoping to at least make the contacts functional.

@KingNovum you can download the free demo here: Thicker Treat by Voca Labs. The Patreon version is the follow-up of that one.

So, uh, if I already played through all the content in 0.1.1 should I skip the intro in 0.2.1? Or is it rewritten enough that I should replay it?

I tried to let the option “skip only text that’s been seen before” decide for me, but it seems like same passages I remember from 0.1.1 aren’t being skipped, although others are.

Largely I think it was only Sakura who was rewritten. So you could start after the intro. Georgia’s opening seemed largely the same other than the clerk at the were burger and some dialogue to match her new look.

Yes, @Krodmandoon is right. If you skip the intro, you will probably just miss very small changes here and there.

In this version the “skip seen text” option is tricky. I moved multiple blocks of code to organize things more. I assume that’s why you get “unseen” text that you actually saw before, @namad

Playing through the update now! How many weight stages do the updated characters have so far? Or is there any way the game lets you know? These type of games tend to get grindy, I’ve played some where the dev doesn’t tell you thr amount of stages which leads to mamy grinding for nothing, Tiger for example lets players know how many stages there are and has an “end of the line” screen,

Anyway really loving the update, this game has tons of potential!

There is one stage and two scenes for Georgia. With dialogue for each of her options when talking to her with a few variations. Sakura has a bit of dialogue but it’s more unfinished then Georgia. I did not see any updated weight stage for her.

There is no notification of the end of content. And if you have seen the two Georgia scenes that should be the end of new content.

Thanks! That’s a very good idea. I will add a message at the start and at the end of the new content. @Krodmandoon already summed up pretty well what the new content is: Georgina’s 2 scenes and a few lines for Sakura in her gaming outfit.

I’ll only add that: if you visit Georgina after the WG scene, you’ll also get a teaser of her new sprites and the next stage of the restaurant. :sunglasses:

Really really liked the update, the characters are all so expressive!

I did notice one possible issue after I peaked into the code. There are multiple options for the “business decision” dialog part with Georgina, but I only ever saw the chocolate one. At first I thought I must have just gotten weird luck but I played for a few more hours and still only saw that one option for that dialog part.

Very much looking forward to the next update in july!

I personally saw both but the amount the chocolate option came up was probably like 80% of the time.

Then I have reached the end of the content! The hero we need as always Krod!

Oh, btw, I couldn’t get any of the girls to eat an entire cake, none of them ever had room, although I reckon that’s intended, and the ability to offer is for the future.
