WASTELINE - A Narrative-Driven Weight Gain Mystery

Chasing a recent string of fattening incidents within the Shadepoint manufacturing complex, the attorney-turned-detective Aspen and her sister Willow set out to crack the case in WASTELINE, no matter the cost.

In Game Screenshots (Spoilers)

Of course, this game was over the last two weeks for Weight Gaming’s 2024 gain jam, “Unexpected Outcomes.” This has probably been the longest two weeks of my life, so I hope that you enjoy all the effort that went into this project.

Who did the non-sprite art?

It says in the credits. It was made with Stable Diffusion.

Do you think that’s fair to the artists who put effort into real art for their entries? And you already had an artist on your team, with a really cute style. It would have been more consistent, and honest, to use their art for that too.

Possible bug/error:

When Ivy mentions that her fattening syringe didn’t work on Aspen because I hadn’t used any of the slimming syringes, I actually had used 5 (I was forced to from becoming immobile). Not sure if this is a bug and/or oversight, but I’m posting it here just in case.

Edit:

So I did a bit of testing by actually using a syringe myself, and the bad end happened. So being forced to slim down by becoming immobile just gets around the sequence.

Can’t do the vat task. Also there seems to be a bug with the dialogue before the vat task.

idk if im doing something wrong, but the movement seems suuuper buggy, unless that’s just supposed to be the style? I tap to move and go clear across the room, but sometimes when i tap to go back, it doesn’t send me clear across the room

Yeah, the keyboard controls are a bit funky. I personally recommend using the buttons on the screen since they seem to work as intended.

how many endings are there? and is there any plan to have art with those endings?

this game is a bit too difficult for me

I really enjoyed this. The sprites and floor is really well done, and the game itself is very manageable while still being challenging to figure out what is going on. This is extremely well done, especially for a Game Jam game!

How many endings are there though? It doesn’t seem like I figured out the ultimate culprit, so I’m curious if I just missed something or if that is planned.

This was an oversight, and is now fixed in the non jam version of the game.

This is also fixed in the non jam version.

I’m working on a fix for this, but it seems to be linked to how laggy one’s browser is.

3 endings currently (immobility, good ending, bad ending), but the true ending is planned to be added in the future.

Controls don’t let me go anywhere when in the hall at all so I’m guessing it’s broken I tried bugsfixed version did same a jam version it doesn’t let me move when I’m in the hall at all.

Real quick question, I got stuck after completing the three tasks on the factory floor, what should I do after getting something from the vending machine?

Probably the broken part of the conveyor belt at the bottom right of the factory room, where the green stuff goes onto the floor.

Oh wait, correction (facepalm)

I did that as well and then Quinn gave me 50 bucks, but then what do I do?

pretty fun and I enjoyed the adventure game mechanics, interesting mix of ai art and sprites

if you speak to Lotus before starting the conveyor task it seems you get softlocked out of the sewer because you “don’t have any reason to go there” and you can’t speak to her anymore

I interacted with everything I could find in the office and the game still won’t progress.
