Long timers will know that BoboTheSecond made 90%+ of a great game, “Fill Me Up”, and then disappeared. For over three years now we’ve seen no signs of life on Itch or WeightGaming, and it’s been over two years since a flicker of life showed on their Patreon.
So I made an ending for the game.
“Chika’s Fire” is a fanmade, UNOFFICIAL, NOT ENDORSED, UNASSOCIATED WITH BOBOTHESECOND mod/expansion/hack for Version 0.2.0 of Fill Me Up which fixes a small handful of typos and adds an endgame event/epilogue.
It is not a substantive increase in the depth or length of the game, but rather an endcap that adds a postscript, a conclusion the plot, to the last bit that BoboTheSecond wrote.
You need version 0.2.0 of Fill Me Up, the last free public release not to use AI Images, for it to run properly. There’s a link to the file on Mega over on the Fill Me Up page here on WG.
If you were hoping for something more substantive, check out 123123133’s work.
Why "Chika's Fire?"
The original name was “Fill Me Up - Expanded”, but that almost implies formal endorsement from Bobo, so I changed the title midstream.
Some of the last comments before the Fill Me Up category on the forum was locked were about how terrible Chika was as a character. I disagree! She serves to normalize Akane’s experience as something that can’t be tooooooooo crazy, since her roommate is going down the same path. Her fast friendship with the MC justifies the temp work the player can do for cash - in most of these games the player can just show up for work whenever, IF they want to, and it strains credulity in a way that Chika’s work’s setup doesn’t. Her morphology being different is always welcome. The way the player can’t actually affect how she develops or doesn’t develop makes the game feel more realistic - you have so much influence on others (Erika, Rin, the volleyball team, etc) that having a core member of the group do her own thing regardless of the player’s whims for her feels grounding. Also, she’s cute, and I have a thing for the blissed-out-stoner archtype, which is kind of where she ends up.
So… Chika is fire.
Are fan expansions legit? Why not make my own thing instead?
I have - check the itch page. There’s a bunch of stuff up there I made. This isn’t an either/or proposition.
Re Legitimacy : In the 90s, in America, you could find dirt cheap CDs with unauthorized level packs and mods for Doom, Quake, et all. They covered checkout counter endcaps, repurposed post card mailer displays, all kinds of places. Dollar stores, pharmacies, computer shops, flea markets.
In the 00s, Planet[InsertGameNameHere] websites were super popular, hosting reviews and downloads for map packs, expansion packs, and mods for all kinds of games. If you could unplug your phone overnight you could get They Hunger, the horror game built in the HalfLife engine, for free from a website hosted by a legit business that wasn’t Valve.
In the 10s, modDB was (and continues to be) a huge thing, distributing mods and expansions that have nothing to do with the various IP owners’ outputs.
Here in the mid 20s, GOG dot com, maybe the second largest digital distributor of games, has formalized and streamlined the process of accessing mods for the games they sell, going so far as to host them and automate their use through the optional GOG client software.
If randos making mods and expansions isn’t “legit”, it at least has a long and tested history.
I’ve tried to get ahold of Bobo through multiple channels, looking for explicit permission to put this out, but they’re seemingly impossible to reach. If they ever DM me with any side-eye on the project at all, I’ll take it as equivalent to a C&D and pull the download.
Did I use AI?
A little, yeah. All of the code and text I added, I did myself. The images are derived from Bobo’s original material - my process mostly involved using GIMP to fine tune existing images, changing body shapes and character positions. But I did need new backgrounds, a few random new character models, and a process to smooth out some rough edges on walls and background objects when I had to do copy/paste work to remove character from scenes. I used Stable Diffusion image generation, mostly inpainting over existing pixels, to accomplish all that.
It’s the best I could do without Bobo’s original (Blender?) files.
Make it longer!
I don’t have the actual character or environment models - the new images are cobbled together mostly with GIMP, coffee fueled swearing, and a lot of luck. Genning up whole weight stages, with how complicated the game is, is outside my scope of work on this project. Sorry. Again, check out 123123133’s stuff, currently in development.
This rocks
Okay. Thanks.
This sucks!
Okay. Thanks?
What is next from you, Jakob?
Argh. Here’s what I’ve already started, projects I was excited for and still want to see through but whose Muses have gone on vacation. One of these is probably going to be the next thing I put out -
Heavy Lighthouse - Semi-spooky lighthouse survival, try to fatten up the post apocalyptic (love interest?) lighthouse keeper before winter sets in. Life sim, time management, mystery researching Ren’Py game.
Isle Not Forget - The High Oh Nine’s son has decided that you and your secret lesbian lover are to be run through The Trial. You’ll each be rowed out and dropped off on separate uninhabited islands for half a year. Whoever is haler and heartier at the end will be sacrificed to the volcano god you suspect doesn’t exist. The other will be wed to the High Oh Nine’s son when he ascends to lead the tribe. Outgain your lover to keep them alive. Or find a way to kill the monster doing this to the two of you, before he weds either of you. Or, by the grace of The Gau, find a way to rescue your love and escape altogether. Or, perhaps, discover the ancient secrets of your tribe and the World Before to use as advantage and a way out of the situation. (Ren’py, life sim, farming / exploration / crafting / resource management)
Athena Killwrath : Independent PharmaTech Model - Sell yourself as a before/after model to questionable pharmaceutical companies hocking diet pills in this incremental clicker where you race to alternate between getting immobile and getting so ripped you can benchpress cars. Earn upgrades to cycle deeper, faster, and harder into both inhuman corpulence and Herculean badassery. Custom engine, incremental clicker, some light plotting that Killwrath is too cocksure and focused to actually engage with (ie light comedy).
Untitled Revenge Survival game - Worker placement / risk management game where you alternate between a quiet, violent brother going out and causing trouble / scavenging resources and a civil but-still-violent sister who builds a compound. In this post-civilization world being fat is a sign of success and power, the kind of thing that inspires loyalty. Gain to strengthen your follower’s faith in the cause, while you work your way through the Lieutenants of the warlord who killed your parents, with the ultimate goal of raising and army that’ll get you close enough to personally put a bullet in his brain. Custom engine, worker placement / dice management, story heavy. (This one is my white whale, BTW!)
Untitled Idle Game - I did a clicker incremental already, but because of how Screen Timers work in Renpy I’m pretty sure I could make a first-person idle game. Weight gain focused, of course, but stealing heavily from Universal Paperclips.
This post should be in the MODS section, not PROJECTS.
Probably! I tried to put it there originally, but the required tag system over there means having to declare the game the mod is for, and there’s a very restrictive list that doesn’t include Fill Me Up or any general/generic entries. So I can’t actually post there.
It’s labelled as being for mods of games that aren’t about weight gain, so it’s kind of the wrong place too?
