Really fun game! I really enjoyed the concept of it with an engaging game loop. I think a few people mentioned it, but I the only ‘criticism’ I have is that the Jester should have mentioned whether the Aces were High or Low in the Tutorial. Other than that, a really solid entry!

This quite an enjoyable game, though I think the player should have had a more androgenous figure at the beginning if you wanted the player character to be either one, having the player have a sizable chest while they were thin just defeats the purpose of keeping the gender vague,

This was amazing. It would have been neat if the joker wheel had an option where both competitors gained weight, and it could lead to a tie and a third ending with both immobile

Such a good game, the art, the dialogue, the simplistic gameplay…

Yeah the Ace thing was a pretty big oversight on my part! I’m not a big card game guy admittedly haha It’s on the list for the next Quality of Life patch!

We were originally going to include something like this, but we didn’t have enough time unfortunately! Perhaps for a content update in the future

Honestly, I really thought it was intentional. With the twist being that you actually want to ‘lose’, that would make ace the highest card in the game.

I mean, yeah, for sure, definitely 100% intentional in that case :stuck_out_tongue:

I saw some great hits at the Gain Jam 2024, and Don’t Fear the Jester was my number one pick next to It’s What You Wanted and Another Day in Paradise. I swear, for a bit, I actually thought there was a secret ending where both your character and the Jester draw at the last game when you’re both at the final weight stages, so you both lose and become immobile. It’s just something I thought. All in all, it was a great game.

Just wanted to echo what others have said, this game was very enjoyable. I haven’t played too many of the projects this jam, but so far this has definitely been one of my personal favorites.

However, one small quality of life change that would be much appreciated would be volume settings, or at least an option to disable the music. The current song in the game is nice, but it gets a bit old after a while, and it would be nice to be able to turn it off while still retaining the excellent sound effects.

Definitely a favorite from this year! Gameplay was really engaging, it’s very simple to learn but there’s quite a bit of depth with the items and especially with the joker, all the random outcomes with weight stages on the line really tickle that “gambling good” part of the brain. Sprites were immaculate too, they’re just really well drawn and the 2.5D-kinda environment brought a lot of life to them. AI had a lot of life too, good dialogue and showing the process of the jester checking their cards was a really nice touch. Would be cool to see a “hard mode” with more weight stages.

Really great game. Love the card art style!

Was confused initially about the aces at first too, but figuring it out during the game worked fine. Took me a bit to read the wheel for the joker and realize there was an ‘in’ and an ‘out’ of joker. Think ended up landing on each option once though, so figured it out.

Should have a QoL update coming out in the next couple days that will address this, thanks for the feedback!

Just pushed out the big 1.0 update! It’s got a bunch of new features, such as a gallery, a new ending and a tonne of QoL stuff! I’ve created a new thread in the Projects section that you can find here!
