Spacethumper 2

A few balance changes and visual upgrades. Next update is gonna be pretty big so it’s going to take a little longer.

big… ooogh…can’t wait

Glad that the overhang bug is fixed, now I don’t need an elevator in front of the cave to reach that spot above the cave.

Still bit of a shame that only the currently controlled character’s weight saves, meaning you can’t have all three at max weight and keep them like that while you’re not playing the game.

Bugfixing and a slight wind turbine nerf.

I loved when the Pilot said “It’s Thumpin’ time” and thumped all over the slimes

so i got interested in the original and decided i would try this out and realized there was no difficulty option and when i got to the point where they start spawning they just kept coming and coming and 2 shotting a lot of stuff so i was thinking about asking if you would add difficulty options from the original again

I’m planning on leaving out difficulty options until I have the enemies properly balanced. I mostly don’t want there to a be a situation where I should be nerfing the enemies and can’t tell if things are actually too hard or people are just giving up prematurely.

ah alright because when i try to play and try to get prepared to build stuff i suddenly get like 10 enemies in a row or 2 light blue slimes at once and destroying my building i was using and then getting a net loss

I’m really loving the recent changes to the game and it’s really awesome seeing some of the suggestions I had be implemented!

I just have a question:
Was there some dialogue between characters in the cave that got removed or did I do something in the wrong order (i.e. increase my max size too much too early or something) and end up missing/skipping it somehow?

I went back to a slightly older version(0.4.1) just to check if I was right, and when interacting with the pilot as Tauma, before I was prompted if I wanted to switch characters, I got a bit of dialogue - here’s just a quick screenshot of one of the interactions just as reference for what I’m referring to:

I’m pretty sure there’s one conversation like this between both Tauma and the pilot, as well as two with the miner and the pilot. (I know the miner has a name I just don’t remember it right noww)

Upon playing partway through the newest version (0.6.2), I never encountered any of the three conversations.
Now, granted, I didn’t speak to the pilot right away this time around, but I never thought you needed to to get the dialogue in the first place. After I started, I ended up leaving the cave and playing the game for a while and then went back into the cave later specifically wondering about the dialogue, only to find it seemingly wasn’t present.

I hope I’m not making it out to be a bigger deal than it is. I’m just really good at being overly lengthy and detailed when talking about things. Heh -w-
But honestly, the dialogue is probably my favourite part of the whole game, seeing the characters interact, and react to becoming bigger. Learning about their backstories and where they came from and stuff.
I’m just hoping that in coming versions, you won’t ever be able to miss out on any dialogue or anything.

I know that previously in this thread there’s been a little bit of discussion around figuring out a way to transfer saves over from one version to another.
With the implementation of that, I’m hoping that there will be an option for just transferring over your base, without any of the other progression that you’ve made on the previous playthrough. So you can see any of the interactions between characters when you grow to a new size for the first time, and you won’t miss out on any if new dialogue has been added for growing to other stages of weight that didn’t previously have any.

Anyways, game is really awesome and I had a lot of fun with it this time around as well, as usual.
I’m super duper excited for the next, “pretty big” update, and am very curious to see what’s added next!
Yea!!

OKAY I just randomly got the dialogue all of a sudden just now. Now I feel baad. Haha.
Is it like- a random chance now or something-?

EDIT:

I also got this dialogue which I think is in the wrong colour. The pilot is speaking but the text is coulered as if Tauma is the one saying this.
I feel like this has happened quite a few times but it was only now that I realized in time and decided to screenshot it and report it.

The way I have the little dialogue bits set up now is… not particularly good at the moment. Essentially you have to follow the chain of “x talks to y” and “y talks to x” with the occasional weight limit to get all of them. Which would be fine if “Playing as pilot and talking to Tauma” was considered the same as “Playing as Tauma and talking to pilot”, which is something I have to streamline a bit to make missing out on the dialogues harder.

As for the save file conversion, it’s definitely possible to make some sort of program to do that but probably not in a non-buggy/future-proof way unfortunately.

Ah. That means I’ll just have to experiment until I find all the dialogue!! >:3

But the main thing is that for the past 2 times that I’ve done a full playthrough of the game, it’s just that it takes such a long time to re-set everything up exactly the way I had it before. It’s not necessarily that you have to play the game again- that’s just a good time. It’s more so just that, each time I’ve had to manually copy down on a physical piece of paper all of my structures and in the exact locations that they were on my last playthrough.
And I mean- yeah of course I could build my base mostly differently on subsequent playthroughs, but it’s like, I’ve already used all my brain power to optimize everything as much as I could the first time, I want to spare myself the effort of having to it again. That’s honestly part of the reason why I’m so adamant about the addition of some sort of map that you could easily access to view an overview of your entire base. Partly because, yes, in-game it would be a really useful and handy feature, but also because any time I, or anyone else would want to recreate a setup that they’ve already made on a previous version, they could simply open the map and screenshot it. It would be much quicker than manually jotting it all down.

I don’t know how difficult this would be. I don’t know anything about game creation and coding or programming or whatnot, but I’m thinking this idea would either range from not that hard, to way too hard and unreasonable for a project of this scale. But I was thinking maybe, along with the map, you could add some sort of “blueprint” feature. Where instead of actually copying the structures over from a previous save into a new version, all acts as is a way to view the image of your previous base from a previous version in the newest version.
All it would be is just like showing you just an image of your previous map on the screen while you play, and you could probably hide it by pressing a certain key, and bring it up again by pressing the same key again.
Because if there was a map that would just have to screenshot yourself, you’d have to keep tabbing out of the game to look at it. But I was just thinking maybe if you could just view the image in the actual game, that could make that process of recreating everything even simpler.

I feel really apprehensive whenever I suggest sort of- I guess ambitious stuff like this because I’m afraid that I’m either coming off as entitled or just suggesting way too much.
If that’s the case I apologize. Heh.
But really I don’t mean it like that and I really hope I don’t come off that way. I just like the thing you’ve made, and my silly brain has a lot of silly ideas.

so, how I’m supposed to get to the top of the cave? I’m trying to build a platform up there but it doesn’t let me not to mention the slime destroying everything all the time

Not letting you from the ground or not letting you on top of other platforms?

did you use hab walls?

It’s probably a skill issue but I just don’t like this one as much as the first one, I don’t pay attention for a couple of seconds and suddenly the small slimes just wreck my barrier and proceed to one shot my platforms, what’s beneath the platforms and what’s on top of them in one fell swoop…

I recommend unlocking the mk2 turrets and fortified barriers as quickly as possible and use them in this order.
(logically with the barrier in front of where the slimes come)

It is best to have good defenses before starting to use platforms, also platforms are expensive, slow to make and useless at the beginning of the game.

Funny detail.
At the beginning, Sen doesn’t let you continue until you reach the first weight gain dialogue.

Come on Sen!!!, we already have a drill working!!!

I built up 1 level with the reinforced platforms but when I try building another platform on top it’s red and doesn’t let me

Only hab walls can have platforms built on them. Reinforced platforms only let you build larger buildings on top, not platforms. That being said, elevators will always carry you to the top of whatever they’re built next to, so if you stick one in the gap right in front of the cave you should be able to get up there.
