Welcome to your new job at the best burger joint this side of galaxy, Squelchies! Keep up with customer orders and try keep your head on a swivel. Squelchy likes to pinch pennies, so who knows what cost-cutting measure you’ll have to deal with next!
Hi! I like the style of the game and idea, but I don’t know if it works properly. When I make everything needed character may be delighted or not. One time I got a heart from character but that was F medal from them, so I dunno. Hope you can still fix these bugs out!
This is incredible! I have long been a proponent of the time-management genre as excellent fodder for WG games, and this is like… the platonic ideal. The physics simulation, 2D & 3D graphics, the characters (both art & writing-wise), and the random shake-ups are all excellent! I did a bad job on my first run but I am motivated to continue flipping burgers with my bare nasty hands.
I really enjoyed it! The physics were a fun challenge to work against, it wasn’t obvious to me at first that each item could be its own stage of cooked but I figured it out after the first day. Really liked how each day introduced a new challenge making gameplay varied.
The characters were CUUUTE! If I have time I’ll try to see how they progress but I love their designs. Writing was superb and funny, and added to the setting.
Great game! I got up to the gas leak level and then hit that “error in action number 1” thing pOpLiK got, ha. But the game is real solid and has good humor to it! Music is good and chill and fit well with the game too!
edit: Yeah, happened again, on the second level this time. Seems to be related to grabbing a raw patty, at least?
There is a few things wrong with the game, but of course it’s a jam so that’s expected, you made the time crunch on the zero-g way too short, I couldn’t even get B rank on them, and of course there’s the glitch of getting a heart reaction then getting F rank, wonder if there’s over or underflow? I also ended up getting unlucky and had a meteor right before moving the plate losing most of the burger, perhaps the sound of the meteor approaching would help just a bit with that
Really love the gameplay and art in this game! Only problem I have is with the crashing error people have been getting. I was at the last order of the last level for my only S rating run and it got ruined by the crash
Even with some frustation at parts, the mechanics were great and went along the theme of the jam neatly. I didnt get any crashes on my part, only had trouble with memorizing the client request. Maybe having a post-it on your counter with the guests request could make it easier to avoid the going back to the client and check and lose progress. Great work and hope to see more updates.
I did some testing and it seems like the crash happens when you try to grab a patty while the screen is finishing shifting into the kitchen from the counter
Really cute game. Seriously hope you continue this after the jam.
My main issue is that the top burger bun is behind where you build the burger on the plate, so everytime you try to finish a burger it spawns the top bun inside the burger stack and knocks it all over.
Absolutely loved this game!! It’s probably one of my favorites so far, had such a blast with it. I may go back and attempt an S rank run later, C and A where the only ranks I’ve completed so far.
The gameplay is super fun, the characters are amazing and look lovely (PLUS you get rewarded with them getting bigger for playing good, and not changing much for bad orders, which makes me want to actually try to play the game properly and try my best), overall a great game! ^w^
This game was really neat! It took me some time to get used to the flow of it, but it ultimately presented a pretty fun challenge and some nice eye candy as a reward for doing well.
I still haven’t managed an S-rank run, unfortunately. I’m thinking of just waiting until the next patch to do it, since I got several game crashes while trying to pull it off. As CranberryOatmeal said, it seems to happen when you grab a burger patty too quickly as you return to the kitchen, and, well… it’s natural to want to go fast when you’re trying for S ranks.
I did feel like the difficulty curve was a bit all over the place. The meteors and zero-g are both very annoying to deal with, especially since it seems like you get penalized for sending out a burger with off-center ingredients. The dark level is trivial in comparison, and the final level… well, if the gas leak is supposed to do something, I never noticed what. I wondered if it was supposed to be a return to basics to allow greater focus on dealing with more complex orders, but no matter how unusual the orders got, they were never anywhere near as difficult as the early levels that messed with ingredient stacking.
It’s really hard to get S ranks consistently, and as of right now, I’m torn on whether some of the things people have brought up in this thread are good challenges or unwelcome annoyances. For instance, does spawning the burger buns right behind the plate make for an interesting space management challenge, or is it just unnecessarily frustrating? I could see some wanting to keep it that way, but personally, I think I’d rather keep plating in its own separate area.
Awesome game! Really love the style and vibe. the only major issue is the meteor level which makes it practically impossible to get anything higher than an A if you’re lucky. Maybe increase the time between strikes or reduce the damage each impact does? Several times it’s hit while I was swapping screens and lost all progress, and it adds an annoying amount of RNG to an otherwise very satisfying skill based game.
I could also see this being less of an issue in an arcade mode, where the “time limit” isn’t a factor and you have as many days as you’d like to build up the characters?
I really enjoyed the game, form it’s artstyle to it’s gameplay to it’s events in each stage. The writing is also entertaining. My only gripe are bugs that other users have already mention, but afar from that this aspect can be fixed so I’ll wait for an update to replay it again fully.
Just got a final rating of S! I only wish that there was a reward for doing that, as the only thing that changes is the text you get at the end. Also wish that characters that you see 4 times had a 4th stage :p. Really loved this game though, it’s definitely one of my favorites from this jam!
Great game, great visuals, great setting. The only thing not great is stuff disappearing on location change. Thank you for the provided experience, can’t wait for even more exciting entries!
oh and i was lazy to get all S because zero-g is infuriating (I suppose that was the intention)
This is probably one of my favourite gain jam games too bad there’s like 20% chance whenever i take meat the game instantly gives error message and crashes so i am not currently able to get past day 3.
So, I managed to beat this game with an overall S rank (not all S), and decided to spend a run just messing around and failing orders in the funniest way I could think of.
for a customer who unfortunately didn’t appreciate my splendorous show of architectural talent, I gave the very next customer a single pickle, and to my absolute horror and dismay… I got an A rank for it.
Intrigued, I decided to extrapolate this to a new run and do some testing.
It turns out you can get a pretty much guaranteed A rank with every customer by giving them the first ingredient in their order and nothing else (even if it’s improperly cooked sometimes), and by doing this I was even able to get an S rank (on the results screen, ingame the customer reacted with the A rank smiley face) with the 3rd customer of the 3rd day, even though I’ve literally never been able to get an S rank with him otherwise.
I think it’s funny the game has an exploit like that (makes the game effortless to power through if you just want to see the customers fat), but it is a bit sad that it’s the only way I’ve been able to get an S rank on that exact customer no matter how immaculate my ingredient movement and cooking has been on other attempts.
Despite the crashing issues, this is still a pretty fun experience and figuring out all the little tricks for optimization (you can whisk a patty on the first day and start cooking before Squelchie finishes his tutorial, you can cook the first order of the day before the customer shows up but you need to back out and return so the game registers your burger, etc.) was also pretty engaging. I also must inquire if any of the customers have names, just out of curiosity.
EDIT: Using a less extreme version of this strategy (skipping roughly between a third/a half of the ingredients and giving customers half-finished burgers) I was able to get an S-rank on the third customer of the 3rd day both in-game (reacted with heart) and on the results screen.
If you’re reading this and having trouble getting consistent S-ranks I recommend doing this as well, since you save up both on burger creation time (which makes attempts quicker to do if you mess up halfway and need to restart) and it makes it easier to fix mistakes (especially while under zero-grav).
Huh, I can’t believe I never caught that exploit when I was testing out the scoring! That’s funny. The next version will have that exploit fixed, but on the plus side the difficulty will be significantly toned down so it won’t be needed!
All the customers do have names, but to have some fun let’s see if people can figure out who’s who. Here’s the list:
Captain
Glorpina
Glubb
Orva
The Muscle
