Sweet Dreams - A Tasteful RPG Made For Sega Genesis

Sweet Dreams is a prototype for a furry weight-gaining RPG made to work on Sega Genesis hardware. Unfortunately, with all the work involved to construct the game, we didn’t get as far into making it as we’d like… But don’t worry! There is still plenty to eat and do!

You can:

  • Experience the wonders of your own bedroom!

  • Walk in an astounding four directions!

  • Interact with your bed! Which you can sleep in!

  • Get slighty fatter from eating some snack food!

  • That’s it! There’s definitely nothing else!

Runs in emulators or on the Genesis!

Recommended emulator is Gens:

GENS - OFFICIAL HOME PAGE (Download version 2.11)

Just run the emulator and open the ROM file through it!

DROPBOX LINK INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Extract Sweet_Dreams_U zip into a new folder, you should see wgens211.zip and Sweet Dreams (U)[!].bin in the folder now.
  2. Extract wgens211 into its own folder. There should be four files in the few folder, including gens.exe
  3. Run gens.exe. Go to File, the Open ROM. Now select Sweet Dreams (U)[!].bin. If you see the title and hear some music, you should be good! If not, try another emulator and see if that helps.

For some reason the game keeps only giving me a .Bin file when I extract it, which doesn’t appear to be useful at all…

That’s the ROM file, open it with the emulator. :3 If you didn’t grab the emulator then check the other links in the post.

The .bin file is what can be loaded as a Mega Drive/Genesis ROM in whatever emulator you choose! One of the downloads is bundled with one, but they’re also pretty easy to come by otherwise! Hope this helps

I’m likely just really stupid, but when I try to open up the bin file in the recommended emulator, it keeps not doing anything…

I can’t believe you were able to enter a Genesis game into the Gain Jam, your team is full of madlads. Great art, plays well, I would love to see the game continued after the jam.

I loved this! I would legitimately pay for a game like this, will it be continued?

We do plan to work on this some more after the jam, we’re just going to take a small break before continuing on. We have big plans for this concept indeed.

@Hoodah My dude, send my regards to Mr/Ms Jeschke, this soundtrack is pretty ballin’

I sure hope I can figure out how to play this game eventually, because it seems to be getting a lot of praise.

I wanted to write cleaner instructions, but the forum was acting up and I was afraid of losing my post. But here’s the step by step list I wanted to post:

DROPBOX LINK INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Extract Sweet_Dreams_U zip into a new folder, you should see wgens211.zip and Sweet Dreams (U)[!].bin in the folder now.
  2. Extract wgens211 into its own folder. There should be four files in the few folder, including gens.exe
  3. Run gens.exe. Go to File, the Open ROM. Now select Sweet Dreams (U)[!].bin. If you see the title and hear some music, you should be good! If not, try another emulator and see if that helps.

You could also try to download our included emulator, and then load the stand-alone ROM. Hope this helps!

This is truly something special! The level of polish you’ve already managed to attain in such a neat little package is really impressive! The sprite work especially is gorgeous.

I love this, pixel art is always so great and you do it even better, nothing to complain aside this being only a very small appetizer and making me hungry for more.
Also im a glutton for punishment and my brain knew that there would be a cap and nothing would happen but i still had to do it.Capturar

Didn’t expect to see a genesis homebrew here but here we are! Awesome work! A lot could be done with this if you keep at it after this.

Now that we have more time, we should probably do something about that, yes.

What in God’s name is this madness?!

I’m enthralled by what we have here- not only is the sprite work phenomenal, but what we see of the gameplay itself is surprisingly in-depth. These kinds of battle mechanics are loaded with potential, and the music is damn solid.

That, and the simple fact that you decided to just casually do a Genesis homebrew. Hot damn.

My only gripe was the fact that it ended- I am really excited to see what ya’ll do in the future!
