I, unfortunately, wouldn’t even give it the “early stages” excuse.
Because he’s not only been working on it for several years, this is the second version of this combat system. The fact that so many people are saying that it feels notably worse is incredibly damning.
I think the most infuriating thing about this game is that it’s impossible to tell what people mean by combat being slow. It’s either because the combat changes turns every fight into wars of attrition, forcing you to constantly spam the same abilities and pray that you can outdamage the healing and reviving of the enemy teams…
or the fact that the default speed is GLACIAL and the option to increase it is buried in the option menu!!
Ehhh, that’s not really a problem. Script optimization have long since been well handle, and VCA doesn’t do anything too extreme that would cause slow down.
I will note that MZ, and MV games by admitted extension, actually recommend you have 8GB of RAM to handle everything. Not 4GB, devs and community managers have admitted that MV undershot the recommended specs.
yeah honestly if you go to options and set eating animation to off and battle animation to fast faster or fastest the battles only take a couple minutes each.
but yeah the default settings a battle might take an hour.
A little curious, what’s the furthest anyone’s ever gotten on this game?
I actually played a little more on a whim and managed to beat Charlotte, then stopped after I saw how few points that netted me. Wasn’t looking forward to that level reset, but I didn’t know it would strip away my equipment and learned skills, too!
Damn. Reading these comments, it really seems like the Vale City devs just sort of doubled down on their already brutal combat system huh?
Not to mention the fact that, without a defined set of main characters, there’s little to no personal investment in the story.
So at the end of the day, the ONLY reasons left for playing Vale City Arcade are the artwork itself (which is quite nice~), or you’re some kind of masochist who likes unfairly difficult RPG’s XD
I’ve left off at week 22 where I could see all the fighters and changed nothing of how I fought each run through. I had fun with the game and got what I wanted out of it some nice artwork and the fights were straight forward unless I put it on the hardest difficulty.
I actually like this as a turn-based combat game. The characters have rather unique skills and they can make nice combos (like Caroline together with any support fighter). Also, it is nice to have Vale City’s combat and sexy ladies without having to go through all of its grindy system for it.
However, there are still problems. If you are building a team it is very import to have slight idea of how each character fight. The game don’t properly explain that Lana is vegan, Miah can’t use meds, ultimate pill don’t work on Alexandra and so on. All these things will make the player frustated at their first try in the game. Yes, you can say that those are mostly explained by the list of passives but this list is hidden in the deepest part of the pause menu.
Besides, the progression is to slow. You don’t even get a reward for beating Charlotte or Alina, you just discover that it didn’t get enough points to unlock a single fighter and, thus, you need to go through 4 fights all over again.
All in all, this game is not working properly for very ridiculous reasons. With just a single update that change the reward in points from 20 to 30 and create profiles that explain the character’s passive skills, it could vastly improve it would vastly improve its community reception.
Got tired of grinding so i used cheats. If you know what https://www.saveeditonline.com is, just change variable 920 to edit the tournament point value.
This game won’t stop crashing on me. No matter what settings I change. I turn off the animations, it still crashes. It’s infuriating and makes it unplayable.
I’m using a modern laptop computer too. Guess I need a damn gaming PC to do battles.
